Comfort Vs Sports seats

I know its a little subjective but to help me complete my 4S build I'm polling feedback to see which seat people would see as generally more luxuriously "comfortable" in daily driving and longer distances. As someone who is almost 60, Im not looking for figure hugging side bolster support at high speeds lol. I was going for the 14 way "Comfort" option (not for the massage function) but surprisingly have had some people tell me the 18 way sport seats are more "comfortable" (better lateral support) so was hoping to get a broader result. Thanks in advance for feedback and advice.

I just remembered that only a week ago my Porsche Center was marketing their “Black Edition” Cayennes and had an interview with one of the sales reps. When they talked about the different “benefits” (read: mumbo jumbo), one of the USPs was that the 14-way seat is the most comfortable option, especially for longer drives.

I actually agree. I’ve tried both the 18-way and 14-way seats in the Macan, Cayenne, and Taycan over the past six months, and the 14-way is generally more comfortable. The extra “four settings” in the 18-way are really only useful if you truly need them, so it’s something you should try yourself.

One thing to keep in mind: if you’re more heavily built, the 18-way can feel more cramped and uncomfortable because of the shoulder bolsters and overall shaping. The 18-way in my opinion is really nice on a car you use for track.

On the other hand, if you’re tall, you might feel the 14-way seat is a bit short in the seat base and thigh support. This isn’t really an issue in the Cayenne since the seat is larger, but in the Macan I noticed a big difference.

You really need to sit in them to decide. As noted previously - unless you are "trim" you may find the 18 way seats constricting and actually uncomfortable. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the 14 way seats - if I had to order a seat without ever sitting in them I would get the 14 way seats just to be safe.

I went for the 14 way because of the massage function. Zero regrets, including 8 hour days driving.

I have the 18 ways and kind of regret them.

I'm too short (5'7") for the shoulder bolsters to really do anything, and it feels like there's a lump of material that pushes into my back below the shoulder blades. I needed to up the lumbar support to cancel that out.

If I were to do it over again, I'd get the 14 ways with massage.

Having driven lots of kms in sport seats in mine vs comfort seats in loaners I have to say sport seats are much more comfortable and a much better choice for an SUV where you sit quite high. Lack of proper support in comfort seats make them uncomfortable in the long run.

I would check club leather vs normal leather though as sport seats in club leather may be a bit more comfortable and hence my impressions.

The 18 ways have significantly larger side bolsters, both bottom and back areas. If you or a member of your family might have entering or exiting issues climbing over the larger bolsters, as recommended above in a couple of posts first take a drive to your local dealership and sit in both.. Then get in and out of each one four or more times to see if the larger bolsters are your friends.

I have the sport seats I love them. I’m 6’ 200lbs with an athletic build, and I fit well in the seats. I actually keep the bolsters narrow because I like the support. I’ve had a couple of loaners with the other seats and they feel super wide and not supportive. That was one my biggest complaints about my Teslas. If you are close to a dealer go sit in some. I was back and forth but as soon as I sat in the sport seats I knew it was what I wanted.

The bottom cushions are the same as far as I can tell. I went with the comfort seats because I couldn’t get comfortable with the headrest on the sport during an extended test drive. My neck just didn’t like it for some reason, so I opted for the adjustable headrest.

I chose 14-way with massage and it's very nice.

The 18-way didn't seem like it had adjustable headrests, and protrudes too much into my head/neck space, whereas the 14-way can actually adjust back enough that it's not uncomfortable.
