Regarding ice, I have to believe the Porsche engineers to some extent accounted for this when designing / sourcing this powered door. Moreover, if weather conditions were such that the powered door wouldn't open, it also would be the same for the manual door.

No paint was damaged in freeing my charge door.

It will take more time to see if the jam I experienced was an isolated event.

The tech first tried to get the door to retract by connecting with the vehicle system. He had trouble doing so, and so had to resort to forcing it open a bit. He had to use some tools to do it. I wasn’t watching closely, but I think it was a screwdriver, nothing special. See other post on here, however, that indicates that under normal circumstances, the door might retract if it encounters resistance from the DC port. My circumstances might have been unique because of the other problem I’m experiencing in the car.
I think there are manual releases for the power charge port doors by removing side panels in the rear cargo area…

Thanks for the heads up. I think I ran into the same situation with the flap not closing, but the door refused to close appropriately. On this same outing, the car refused to charge using plug & charge. I checked my account and it is still active so I’m tentatively blaming the charger. Will update when I am able to use the charger that has always worked in the past. Most of the time I charge at home, but the free year is too good to pass up (when it works that is).

We drove 4,000 miles from PEC ATL to Oregon with the powered port on our 2024 Turbo electric closing the DC flap perfectly … until it doesn’t. At home, the port door slammed into the DC flap repeatedly until it broke the flap hinge.

Had I found the port closure control quickly enough, the DC flap hinge might have been saved. We are not the first seen by our Porsche dealer.

Here are instructions that might save yours:

Select:
  • Main Menu Tiles
  • Car
  • Settings (Gear)
  • Vehicle settings
  • Hood, tailgate and charging ports
  • Charging port left (US)
Port will close after ~2 minutes.

You can also open a power port in the Goodbye display when turning off the vehicle (disappears when you open the driver door).

Dave, When at the dealer for comfort entry repair, they also found some sort of issue with the charge door that they repaired. I was so focused on the door locks that I didn’t ask the specifics on the charge door.

Another benefit of manual Charge Port Door… :)
While charging at public AC chargers, you can tuck your charge lead on the port door, so it doesn’t touch the muddy wet road. For those like me who cannot charge at home, living in apartments.

This thread was very helpful, mine just did the same (macan turbo ev) and closed very quickly after I disconnected before I had time to reset the DC flap, and although it closed fully I got a warning message on the dash to say there was a problem and until visiting the service centre I'd have to use the RH port. The LH port would no longer open when pressed.

Reading this thread I found the command in the menu from the infotainment screen and managed to open it from there and clear the fault! No screwdrivers/crow bars/shoe horn necessary on this occasion!

This happened to me during my first road trip last weekend. As a result, the charge port door eventually tore off the DC flap while I was waiting for the tow truck. After that, I had to manually hold the remaining part of the DC flap in place for about 20 minutes to charge my car before I could drive home, which was a two-hour journey.

I have scheduled a service appointment for my car and submitted a complaint to Porsche.

my doors back off if they encounter the DC charge port flap - not saying this isn't bad - but in the same situation my powered doors did not jam…YMMV
Unfortunately, it just happened to me as well. Just yesterday as I was trying to charge at an EA station. The station failed to authenticate my certificate and I was pulling out the charging assembly. The door tried to close and got jammed by the DC charging cover flap. Porsche 800 number was of NO help whatsoever. Finally I managed to push the flap down enough while unlocked and locked the car causing the flap to retract. Don’t ask me why this worked.. it did. EA doesn’t always seem to recognize the plug and charge certificate through their network. Once I unjammed the thing, I ended up having to pay to charge. Not a disaster but 40 minutes of frustrating combination of issues. The irony is I had charged with no issues at that same charger 2 days prior.

Is there a safe way to force the door open if it’s stuck?

I’d like the power door option but only if you can force it open without breaking.
I had the same issue and I tried to force the thing open.. I could not no matter how hard I tried pushing on it. I did manage to eventually push down the DC cover flap and then unlocked and locked the car in succession causing (don’t ask me why) the charging door to retract and free up the flap. No clue as to why that worked and nothing else did.. but beggars can’t be choosers. In any case, the 800 Porsche number was of NO help whatsoever.

I've found using the open/close function from infotainment system sorts it out whenever mine gets stuck and the dreaded yellow warning circle of doom appears.

Great info but I’m curious if the spring on the DC flap for those getting it jammed has failed? I have only charged my 4S 5 times at EA and the DC flap snaps back into place immediately after pulling the plug.

Mine snaps back as well.. this was a set of unintended consequences set off by a failed authentication of P and C. I tried re-plugging almost immediately to re-authenticate and the door tried closing as I was plugging in. So it was partly my fault .. Nevertheless it shouldn’t stick there and jam. The software assumes a fixed set of events and has no fault detection programmed in. That’s probably what they are doing now.. adding failure modes. In any case, the suggestions above should help until they update.
