I can’t speak for those things but two dealers in Sweden have said the same thing including the HQ - There is supposed to be a big update (not OTA) that should be finished from week 36 for the MY24-25 to address different software issues.
My 4 was at the shop in Oslo 1st of Sept. because of three recurring sw-issues; I.e. failing panorama parking view, failing adaptiv cruise «driver’s seat belt not in use» and the car going into full hibernation when not in use for 3-4 days making MyPorsche app useless. They told me the same as @FirstEV - huge upcoming sw-release will fix all these known issues.

It will probably be delayed a few months as I understood, still better than getting a software that’ll mess up the car even more. Did they give you an ETA for the software?

I do agree. Nope, but I got the impression of this update being somewhat close to release.

i think the answer is no right now. maybe soon. but its dealer visit to get major firmware updates at the mo. you might get map updates ota
Limted.

Taycan had some significant updates OTA historically which didn't always end well and became problematic.

Expect simple OTAs for PCM / map & calendar updates but given the Taycan experience it will be limited on either model.

Promotion of Function on Demand (FoD) OTA features - power steering plus, InnoDdrive etc - has also disappeared for the Taycan and I don't think has been offered yet for the Macan EV.

Don't purchase a Porsche (any) on the expectation that the management of software components can be maintained OTA - Porsche has had poor record of this since 2019 with the original launch of their first EV. Part of the explanation is due to the number of suppliers involved and little or no standardisation for each target model (Tesla on the other hand pretty much own and control all software (and hardware?) elements which makes this a doddle for them to do).

Personally, I'm not bothered by a dealership visit as I take an accute view on safety and not comfortable with the idea my car can be changed remotely with unknown consequences (I'm a 40 years experienced IT professional). We already know how poorly tested both the Taycan and Macan EVs have been with much testing apparently being done by unwitting paying customers.

I still wouldn’t hold my breath, my guess is until the beginning of next year. I’ve heard from other thread members (don’t know how to tag in the forum, haha) that they’ll expect a lot of issues of the new software and will beta-test them on the MY26 production cars before slowly releasing them to MY24-25 cars.

Just a heads up!

I wish they let it connect to your home WiFi, but they want to sell you a subscription (at least ours is free for 10 years, unlike Taycans). If any future OTA updates are of any substantial size, it’s going to be difficult download them in my garage as I get terrible cell service near my home. It takes several minutes just to send a basic command through the app, like setting the desired charge level. It’s quite fast when I’m in an area with good cell coverage.

But you can connect your car to the home WiFi… am I missing something?

Oh I must be the one missing something! I guess I spent too much time in the Taycan forums and figured we shared the same fate. I’ll look into this!

the car can't stay "alive" long enough to do any major updates - all the dealer applied updates require you attache the car to an external "reliable and uninterruptible" 12V power supply - otherwise you runt he risk of bricking the car if the updates are interrupted…

Porche has no effective OTA mechanism beyond data sets for the PCM system - any "car" systems will need dealer applied updates for the foreseeable future given the architecture of their system and multiple ECU's

I know it’s a backward step but in previous cars including VW if you were in an unreliable signal area (I am) you could download map updates onto a USB using a laptop / desktop and then load them in the car whilst driving - BMW also were capable of restarting where the upload left off on the next drive. Lexus promised OTA map upgrades on the RZ but they were dealer only and never OTA.

If I remember correctly Merc & BMW differed as one only updated the changes whilst the other uploaded the whole regional map. I’m surprised Porsche don’t offer that until OTA are really available.

Range Rover used the same ‘Here’ Nav database and they were USB upgradable and you wanted to do those regularly as the database included speed / safety cameras. I believe we got the French to blame why European manufacturers don’t include cameras as they are illegal in France. Also some time ago you could buy locations of speed cameras and load them into Merc’s as POI’s but they removed that facility due to EU regs.

Maps can be updated via USB, or at least there is an option in the map settings screen.

Also, if you use Google Maps via CarPlay, you can use offline maps. Google Maps lets you select multiple map areas that you can download to your phone. You won't get routing that incorporates live traffic information, but you can set destinations by address and it will get you there with no network connectivity.

Apple Maps also offers that and I’ve seen it working in the Porsche (the overview map looks like you’re calling in an airstrike). The Apple Maps one also integrates with Watch for when you’re out of the car. Probably the Google version does as well.
