My Macan 4S currently has 21 inch Bridgestones. What's the view on alternatives?
Michelin has a new All Weather tyre CC3 Sport. Has anyone had any experience of this tyre? It has a very different tread configuration.
Looks like the most obvious tyres are a Pirelli P Zero or the Michelin Sport EV

Have also been looking at the CC3 but non-sport version for 20" 235/55 and also the Continental All Season Contact 2. Looks like the CC3 Sport is a good choice and miles better than the non-sport, but consider if you really need an all-season tyre? My thought process below:

I've replaced the front tyres after an unrepairable puncture (after 14k miles, down to 2.5mm tread) from Bridgestone Potenza to all-season Pirelli Scorpion MS NE0.

Feelings on the bridgestones were:
  • In the dry: Understeers very easily, could only ever manage 0.9g lateral, car is capable of about 1.1.
  • In the wet they are as you expect, OK but not great
  • On ice/snow the grip is quite good due to EV compound - equivalent to all season tyres.
  • The wear rate was initially shocking: 7mm new down to 4mm in 5k miles.
  • Noise & comfort, a little bit loud. I think the car in general is quite loud though.
  • Conversely find that the bridgestones on the rear have ample grip, predictable oversteer. Feels rock solid all the time.
Pirelli Scorpion MS:
  • In the dry: There is clearly less overall grip available and notice immediately completely dulled steering response, not good!
  • In the wet, sure-footed and feels almost the same as they are in the dry, consistent.
  • On ice/snow, good as you would expect but not great, not noticeably better than the Summer UHP Bridgestones. Where is the all-season benefit?
  • Noise & comfort, noticeably quieter - this is clearly a softer tyre
  • Noticed an improvement in consumption, much easier to hit >2.5m/kWh in the same weather I would have been <2.5m/kWh. And this is just the front tyres.
In hindsight I would not have fitted all season tyres due to the lack of steering response and gone for the best NE0 summer tyre - Goodyear Eagle F1.

Total cost over 14k miles, mostly tyres! Need to find a good set of tyres with low wear rate:
  • Electricity Domestic & Rapid - Ā£984
  • 4x NE0 tyres - Ā£1,106
Once the rears are depleted I will be fitting 20" 285/45 Scorpion Elect non-MS VOLVO tyre as they have the best stats for my tyre size and are a bit cheaper too. Then Eagle F1's on the front later on.

This thread is a good resource

All summer tyres, NE0 all seasons include Pirelli Scorpion MS Elect, Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season, Continental Conti Cross Contact RX (Shite) - any more to be aware of?

The disadvantage of using "Summer" tires all season is they don't work as well sub 50 F and can be damaged by colder weather, below 40 F.

My 4S came OEM with 20 inch Perilli Scorpion MS and I like them. I don't find the steering response to be dull for an AS tire, but then the car has RWS and PTV+.

They used to be a relatively expensive tire, however.

Do you have the same data sheet for 22ā€
Or is it likely to be the same?
Go to the configurator, select your model, select rim size, click the tyre icon in the rim image to display tyre options.

I swapped the original Bridgestones for Pirelli Scorpion MS as I was disappointed by the noise from the Bridgestones. The Pirelli are much quieter and for my driving I didn’t notice any change in grip or ā€˜feel’ - that said Iā€˜m not a ā€˜ performance driver’.

With the relatively mild winters we have in the UK the advice I read indicated AS tyres are ideal. In the past on rear wheel drive Merc’s I went down the Summer & Winter route as Summer tyres even in the mild winters made the car virtually unusable in Jan & Feb Light snow.

Goodyear winter tires and Goodyear summer tires when my Potenza’s are gone (which they will after about 15k km’s)

This was true before EV specific tyres were introduced - to compensate for the added weight and abrasion EV tyres have higher silica content, a by-broduct of which results in the tyre remaining soft below 40F and therefore remains grippy where traditional tyre grip falls off a cliff.

I encourage all to try their car on snow/ice with the stock summer tyres, you will be impressed!

From personal experience, the very well regarded Hankook summer performance EV tires developed enough cracks over one 500 mile winter season to fail safety inspections. Every EV "summer performance" tire I looked at as a replacement had low temperature warnings . If you use summer performance tires in cold weather, keep an eye on them for cracking.

A year ago, the advice here was that summer performance tires are dangerous in cooler weather. There may be exceptions now days that compromise performance for a bit more safe temperature range.

There are summer tread tires with wider temperature ranges., but we are talking performance tires here.
