Macan 4 - Black with the best performance for the cheapest price

Hi,

I'm about to press the button on a Macan 4. I wantit to be black, apart form the wheels and have the best performance for as low budget.

So I've specced the exterior to what I believe is what I want, added Air Suspension and Bose.

If you want performance, you might want to add rear-axle steering also.

I would skip Electric Sport Sound - it is awful IMHO.

Add 2D or 3D view - 360 view, simplifies parking and saves scraping wheels.

Power Steering Plus - a must (speed sensitive).

Standard steering wheel isn't heated and has a mode switch but you can add heating, is there a reason you want the GT Sports variant - size?

Air suspension with PASM is "essential" but Bose I would question / take a rain check as it doesn't sound that much better than Sound Plus (basic)).

Rear Axle Steering (RAS) would be desirable but not primarily to do with "sportiness". Makes low speed maneuvering much easier and will be the main obvious benefit.

Sunroof - you will be driving a hearse otherwise!

You say you want Performance, but you did not add Sports Chrono that gives you Sports Plus mode.
GT steering wheel is a good choice, but you need to be sure you like it over the Standard.
I also see you did not add Matrix Lights or Adaptive Cruise Control (most regret not getting it).

I agree with @W1NGE about Bose and the 2D or 3D parking assist option.
I have Porsche's basic sound system, and it's pretty good.
Even Kyle Conner of Out of Spec Reviews was surprised how good it is when he reviewed the Macan.
As your aim is the cheapest price, it's worth saving on Bose and going for the park assist option.

Side Airbags for the rear seats? I would say there’s not much difference between the 21” and the 20” Macan S wheels - look very similar IMHO. Also, do you need mirrors and side blades painting if you want to keep cost down?

I have sports chrono but sports plus suspension is very harsh and probably only really good for track or very smooth roads - what else does sports plus really give you?

sooo many options "missing" that I'm at a loss…sure you're keeping the price down - but also watering down the experience…I hope you enjoy it.

have you considered an Audi Q6 it might be a better fit for your goals…and you'll get more value for the same or lower price point…

I suspect going gloss rather than metallic black might be a false economy at resale. Perhaps the lack of sunroof too (and it makes the dark interior much more “airy”). I would say power steering plus and rear steer are tangible benefits to manoeuvrability and I would always opt for heated steering.

I’m undewhelmed with the Bose in mine. A disappointingly ordinary sound system - but I never tried the basic. I never use the noise generator - synthetic hums and whines - meh.

Just my opinion.

Handling differences between Macan 4 and Q6 with air suspension are night and day as is the steering.

Makes sense to have a lightly specced Macan 4 as it's quick enough for most and fits within the UK Salary Sacrifice Scheme which I'm guessing is one of the key financial factors.

Yes, skip the Bose for the Air Suspension, the Bose isn't that good but the Air is.

I need to do a proper write-up of my recent acquisition of a Macan 4, but for the purposes of this thread:
I’ve come from a BMW x3 with various 5-series beforehand and
- I’ve got Power Steering Plus (20” wheels) and it is still surprisingly weighty at low speeds compared to the BMWs I had, plus half decent steering ‘feel’ as well. I recommend it
- also have PASM but with steel springs. The ride on the 20” wheels is very good (much better than the beemers!)
- Bose is better than the Harman Kardon sound systems in my BMWs. Not amazing but better/a step up from basic systems in most cars. Never tried the base set up in the Macan but worth exploring for options remove.
- my burgundy red interior is gorgeous (to my eyes) and always gets involuntary “oohs” when others see it. Didn’t get the pano sunroof as it made the roofline a bit tight for my son in the back when we travel as a family. It is a bit dark but getting used to it.
- the 360 cameras are essential (the kerb view is great) but much inferior in quality to those in both the X3 and 5-series I had before. Night/evening is much more fuzzy with ‘blooming’ from the lights well.

If you want the car to look properly blacked-out, go for the sports design package—it transforms the Macan and gets rid of the plastic trim.

On the performance side, you’ve added Bose and sports sound, which don’t actually contribute to performance. If budget is tight, I’d drop those and put the money towards making the spec cleaner and more focused.

You haven’t touched on comfort, but I’d still suggest power steering plus as a low-cost add-on, and a 360 camera is essential in my view.
