Have brought my 4 to EA high-speed (350kW chargers) Flagship location in San Francisco the last two days as part of my free charging period. Both days I have used the Porsche trip planner to navigate to the EA location. Both days I am experiencing extremely slow charging speeds (under 30kW.) Yesterday I only drove here in under five miles so I thought maybe the battery didn’t precondition, and EA was full; every bay taken. Today I had been driving around for over 25 miles and again used to trip planner to navigate to EA figuring the battery would precondition under that circumstance. Again getting under 30 charge speed. Thinking it’s a “my car” issue. EA bays are less than 50% occupied today.

it could be sooo many things - you need to check other EA sites under difference circumstances

battery temp
SOC is critical information…
did you move stalls?

Moved once, yes. Battery temp was in the 70’s when I arrived. Charged from 45% to 63% in the 30-minutes free period. Charging speed as low as 22kW and as high as 39kW. Seemed very slow to me for starting at 45%. Maybe I’m wrong but it’s never trickle charged like that at EA for me in the past.

This is obviously very low. I’ve charged my car at -1°C (30°F) and still managed to pull at least 60-100kW on a 360kW charger until the battery reached higher temperatures. SoC was between 15–30%. That said, I would tend to agree with the comment above. It is probably worth first checking whether this is related to the charging facility itself.

BUT, I would like to add the caveat that I’ve seen many charging issues with NA cars, so it might not be entirely fair for me to compare it with a European one.

Thanks. I have been to this particular location many times over the last nine months with very high-speed charging. Yesterday and today are the only times I have had this slow rate of charge at this location regardless of my starting SOC%. I am going to search out another location this week and try that.

Try a different EA to eliminate the charger, but agree regardless of low Battery Temp and high SoC, the speed is way too low.

Otherwise:
- Battery Temp is too low to accept max speed
- Monitor Battery Temp to make sure it is heating up to 90F+ (pre-conditioning)
- SoC is too high, try to be at 15% or below

Couple of other things to try. . .

Try going to your local EA In the middle of the night when no other cars are charging and see if that helps. Also try calling the EA phone number on the charger while connected and see if they can trouble shoot.

Try non-EA as well to rule out something like cell imbalance/recalibration required on your car.

I've charged at that location before (if it's the Harrison 20-charger flagship location) and it charged a lot faster. It does seem like it's either something wrong with your car (try a different brand in a different location?) or EA is having some real constraints. If you glance at the charging rate display of the other vehicles, what are they at?

Yes, that is the same location I charge at. Typically has been much much faster there for me.

Can you share a photo of the left “tube” when you are charging? It shows the battery temperature and such.

Todays update.

Decided to put some miles on the car to drain the battery. Lunchtime trip from San Francsico to Cupertino for lunch with a friend, then back.

Arrival in Cupertino:

Electric Macan EV Extremely Slow Charging Speed at EA CUPE Arrival

After lunch I set the Porsche Trip Planner to head to the EA Flagship in SF as a first stop, then home:
(note also "only" 86-mile range at 50% charge on a bright sunny mid-70-degree day)

Electric Macan EV Extremely Slow Charging Speed at EA CUPE Departur

Arrival at EA SF: Battery at 90-degrees. Battery SOC at 22%. Ideal for fast charging, or no?

There were only seven (7) cars in the 22-bay facility while I was charging.

Charging Speed at EA: Charged for five minutes. Speed never increased past 37kW.

There is an EVgo location two blocks away from this EA location, so I went over there to try charging.

First Charger at EVgo: Charged at 35-36kW.

Electric Macan EV Extremely Slow Charging Speed at EA EVGO First

Only charged at 35kW or lower, so I tried a second charger at EVGo:

This one only charged at 35kW or lower.

On my way home I stopped at the Porsche Dealership and scheduled an appointment to have it looked at on March 5th.

Charging on the home charger afterwards:

Seems a pretty good demonstration that this is a Porsche problem, not a charger problem. Sorry to hear that. Looking forward to what Porsche’s reaction and response is.

Totally agree with @SandyHaus. Certainly well documented and diagnosed. Very sorry to hear of your DCFC woes; hope Porsche can resolve them for you soon @Paris92.
