I wish they let it connect to your home WiFi, but they want to sell you a subscription (at least ours is free for 10 years, unlike Taycans). If any future OTA updates are of any substantial size, it’s going to be difficult download them in my garage as I get terrible cell service near my home. It takes several minutes just to send a basic command through the app, like setting the desired charge level. It’s quite fast when I’m in an area with good cell coverage.
All new Porsches now come with a 10 year Porsche Connect subscription if that's what you are referring to.

It may be possible to source a cellular singal booster - available in NA but not all countries.

My dealership (Aus) is expecting the update late Sept/Oct but not specific, likely subject to change, flooding, possums on the road, nooceler holocausts etc.

It will require a visit to the dealership. 800 System wotsit updates. Give or take.

I'm excited to be able to test the beta 2 - hoping to have more than a couple of days connectivity at a time...

I wouldn’t trust that at all. Our dealer said “maybe November, but probably not” - and this is from two different dealers along with Porsche HQ in Sweden.

Would be a first if you got it before people who live 10 meters from the factory 😅

Vladimir is blocking your wifis mate. We'll definitely be getting it first, here at the butt-end of the world
Did they say anything specific or just kind of threw out a date in the air btw?

That's not how OTA works, having done several on my VW it works like this:

1) Map updates: download and install in the background while you are driving, zero indication to the driver, if you manually check the version you will see for example 25.6 this means Jun 2025, that's how you know it is updating

2) Infotainment update (software updates for the online store, manual, apps, etc.) NOT ECUs, download in the background while you are driving, when you're about to leave your car on the exit screen it notifies you in bright yellow "Update Available", if you select it you can view information about the update and install it, you can install it and wait a few seconds until it finishes, or click Install and it will install next time it gets a chance. If you do not install it, it will be listed in the Notifications of the infotainment and also every time you're about to exit the car (same for ECU updates in point 3 below).

3) Control Module updates (ECUs), these are major updates usually numbered 3.2, 3.5, 3.7, etc. The car has several ECUs (say around 100) each update (3.8 for example) can update anything from 1 ECU (say backup camera) to several ECUs.
Car again downloads the update in the background while you are driving (depending on the length of trips this can take days). There is no indication of this. Only after the update is downloaded you get a message saying when you are about to exit the car "Update Available". You can read the info if you want or select "Update". It then tells you how long the update will take (2.5 hours, 4 hours, etc.) to close all windows, switch off the lights, get out and lock the car. Do not bother the car until after the time stated has passed. One you enter the car it briefly reconnects to the internet (as it is offline during the update) and notifies you "Update Successful".

Bottom line, the engineers are aware your car may live in an underground car park / basement parking / location with flaky cellular reception but they have worked around it.

Yeah I was just bemoaning that I get slow speeds while in my garage. It’s full speed everywhere else. It’s connected to WiFi now and the speeds are even better!

Side note: It’s also interesting that they list the Open Source Software they’re utilizing in their system. Many familiar libs!

That’s a requirement of many open source licenses. Attributions generally must appear in both the documentation and the product.

Yeah I’m just surprised they admitted it. Most companies will gladly use them and never mention it

Even Apple admits that, and lists all the open source softwares/licenses involved in its iOS!

Well ever since they went Unix, they’ve been quite proud to flaunt their part in OSS, even if small ha

To be fair, they are getting a hardware upgrade because some features that the vehicles were supposed to come with couldn’t be delivered using the hardware they used. Also helping is the fact that they delivered just a few thousand vehicles worldwide, keeping down the cost of the upgrade campaign.

I applaud Volvo for doing what’s right, but none of this would have been necessary if they hadn’t shipped a beta version of the vehicle with a promise to fix it later. Reminds me of Tesla…

Fair enough.

in the meantime, for instance, my french purchase order stated in januray 2024 "360 surround cameras [3d]", and then, it's disappeared.
I'm pretty sure Porsche changed its plan regarding this option, and it took one more year to be ready with an up to date hardware&software.

same for the iOS/android key, the second screen and the ability to connect a Bluetooth headphone, or the OTA purchase for options, for general ota and so on which are central in the PPE platform.
All that things were mentioned in marketing pre-launch contents.

That's why I think Porsche is not doing the right thing with us, the earlier adopters. One year without delivering anything but some more or less visible fixes, which in my case (wsd0) generate red death circles each 30ish km & disengage the rear motor.

I'm not happy, even if the car is amazing to drive when it works...

In the world of Porsche, we Don't know if and when they will improve our "old" macans (less than 12 months Old...)

in the meantime, Volvo improves all the ex90 cars (even ones that have been built... and delivered), with a new software as well as a new hardware for free...

https://electrek.co/2025/09/23/volvo-ex90-upgrade-delivers-faster-charging-and-more-for-free/
I own both of these cars. There’s a lot to like about the EX90, and I’m far from disappointed with it, but I’m always watching for updates because while there’s nothing major there are a few minor glitches and they push OTA updates fairly frequently.

On the other hand, I could drive my Macan until the end of the lease and be happy if nothing changes at all. It’s fun to drive, the infotainment is responsive, have not experienced any issues that seem so often reported on forums.

It would be nice to get some unpromised features, but I love the car overall, it has been awhile since I’ve liked a car so much.
