What's you tolerance for off center steering wheel?

I was surprised to learn from the dealer that Porsche accepts the steering wheel after alignment to be up to 4 deg off center.

I was left with something like this and to be honest it bugs me much more than having the steering wheel visibly much more off center.

When it is significantly off-center, you simply adapt and stop trying to keep it straight relying instead on "feel" of the car.

When the position is only slightly off-center, you tend to treat it as normal which makes the car feel less stable.

It's not only Porsche specific but these cars are more precise and the effect is more noticeable.

That’s unacceptable to me. Have them redo the alignment properly.

Not acceptable. I have not driven a car that the steering wheel is not aligned center after alignment.

I'd have no tolerance for this. The techs I know would have more pride in their work as they know how annoying it is. There are several stability type functions that use steering angle as an input.

So hear me out - I have driven two Tacan loaners and four Macan loaners from two different dealers and they ALL but one had steering wheel like this or worse. Make of it what you will.

That is ridiculous... definitely not acceptable, I think we pay enough for these toys to have the steering wheel aligned!

Given that I’m not seeing a bunch of responses saying “mine is like that as well” your experience seems to be the exception rather than the norm. And seemingly none of us would accept this particular problem.

Steer by wire would let them fix this with software. I'm sure they'll get there eventually!
