Although I clicked the Porsche app where appropriate to receive OTA updates, I don’t think any have come (although I don’t know how we’d be notified). I connected my Macan to my home WiFi network and was wondering if this is how they might be delivered (although when the car if off the connection drops). Anyone have an idea? Thanks in advance!

OTA updates :CWL:

it’s done at a dealership while the car is plugged into an external 12v power supply and using a porsche pwiis service computer

OTAs for the infotainment system do occur (map updates, app updates, new apps) usually in the background via cell connection while driving and possibly via WiFi if the car is on. As an example, I have received updates for my Amazon Music app as well as new apps (Home Assistant, DAZN, some games, some European music stations).
Anything else requires a visit to the dealership for a complicated update protocol, more representative of last century’s computer programming, and connection to a PIWIS computer while power being supplied by an external 12v battery.

to be fair Porschde has advanced - their idea of OTA updates are a app notification or email telling you to take the car to the dealer for a 6 week software update that might brick the car causing more delay in the dealership getting you your vehicle back…

this _IS_ progress in that Porsche did not even used to admit there was software in their cars, or that it could be updated - and having a dealer process to update the software is "new" for Porsche…

so the OTA update _IS_ the noficiation on your phone that you need to schedule a service with your dealership and beg for a non-sucky loaner car for the 6 month update process…

so progress.

I haven't even gotten that. Found out about the (dealer-applied) update here. Called the dealer to ask, he looked my car up, and said "yes, looks like yours is eligible for the update, plus 2 recalls".

Not a peep from Porsche.

Went to my dealer to get a low tire pressure warning resolved (it was on my way home anyway). They told me I’m due for another software update in January. The September update fixed most of my annoyances. I haven’t seen any major lock and walk issues since.

Only annoyance was the HUD not showing CarPlay and tire units in bars rather than PSI on the same day. The dealer offered to look at it, but everything resolved the next time I got into the car.

So my experience was somewhat similar. I brought my car in for the rear compartment cover campaign and after about 15 mins they came to the lounge and offered me a taxi chit so they could keep the car the rest of the day for some software updates. No problem, I came back a few hours later and discovered that they had implemented about 12 updates accross the whole system. I did not get many details but it was "optimization" stuff. Anyway, I did not notice much different but my impression is that although this could have been done OTA they are overly cautious about touching the softare as there were numorous system verification checks done after the software installs. It seemed like this was a patch to close some bugs they have on their to do list. The service team is great here and honestly I would rather them do whatever it is they are doing safely and without error even if its a slight inconvinience to me. To your point, Porsche did not inform me through any notification for service as it was left to the dealer to reach out directly to me. I did apprecite that they could have just replaced the comparment cover and sent me on my way so they were semi-proactive by doing it at the same time (if that is a thing) ;).
