Interesting, what's the source of this info? I'm pretty sure it worked like this last time I charged my car in 0C temps which was like over the weekend but TBH driving fast also brings the battery temp up.
It'd have to be below 0C for preheating to kick in. There's no point to doing it unless the battery is more than 10C out of the ~10-30C ideal range.
In my mind it should works like this:
If you select a charging destination and the battery temperature is outside the optimum range it will heat/cool the battery as necessary.
Sort of. People really are spending way too much time thinking about preconditioning. It doesn't do very much for most cars in most conditions.

The car will always try to manage battery temperature so that it stays in the ideal range (within the bracket). There's really no such thing as "pre-cooling" for fast charging because the car will kick in the cooling system whether you have a charging destination or not once the battery gets too warm. Similarly, it will warm the battery when it's cold outside, again regardless of your destination.

The only thing "pre" conditioning changes is a little bit of the logic around how far out of the ideal range it allows the car to get so that you can save 1-3 minutes at the charging stop. Preheating wastes power and so the car won't do it if you're very low on range (trading 10 miles of range for an ideal battery temperature is a bad idea if you're going to run out before you get to the charger). When it's very hot out, it also will cool a little more aggressively so it doesn't hit the thermal limit and slow charging. It is virtually impossible to gain or lose more than 5 minutes of charging time as a result of preconditioning.

It is a tiny convenience feature like tilt-down mirrors or active aero shutters, not a significant part of the car's range or charging performance.

Agree with Tomek,my 4S has it too,it came out from the factory with it (production completed 18/09/2025) and you don't even notice it unless you look out for it.
And it's not only Porsche's solution,my wife's MY20 Renault Captur has it too.
Does it match the color of the seat belt? Mine are read and I would think black would look terrible attached to the red.

Well, it’s done! I’ve had the car in for the three point recall. I was told that it would take about 6 hours, but the actual work time was only a couple of hours in the end.
The items to be covered were:
1. Replace plastic slide on 3 point seat belt ie passenger side front. This now has a sponge pad behind it to stop it rattling when not in use
2. Replaced luggage compartment cover ie parcel shelf. The complete parcel shelf was replaced, apparently the pivots at the front of the shelf were inadequate and not fit for purpose, and the longevity of the item could not be guaranteed - so they’ve replaced it!!
3. Updated the software network VR28.13
This is supposed to cover many items that were giving concern and I was informed that they covered, amongst others:
a. Speed sign recognition - notably this was a fault more common in the UK?, our road signs gave problems to the software. The problem was less on the continent (or at least that’s what they told me!). On my way home it actually worked showing the correct limits in the correct places!!!
b. ā€˜Cruise control unavailable drivers seat belt unfastened’ notification on dash. I can’t comment on the effect of the update yet, the fault showed itself again when I took the car in but after the update, or at least so far, it hasn’t shown itself, fingers crossed it’s now cured?

There are other areas supposedly addressed, but these two points were of specific interest to me.
I made an apptmt for all 3 for my '25 Turbo at my local dealer in California.
Appreciate the heads up as I'm not sure when they would have notified me if ever...

Sorry but battery conditioning is needed, both cooling when to hot and heating when to cold …
I’ve personally done the test and when your battery is ā€œcoldā€ not entering a destination, the charging curve is slow and it does add way more then 1 - 3 minutes … you cannot fast charge a cold battery period. Yes charging will heat the battery but when cold the fast charging is slow and so the heat generation is also low … pure and simple.
So yes the pre conditioning is both ways, cooling when to hot, heating when to cold … if you do live in a mild climate the effect could be minimal, but when your car is outside for a few days at 0C, trust me you want preconditioning ;-). Why do you think BMW has even a button in the app to precondition your battery … if it is 20C, it’s greyed out, if it is 0C you can activate it and if your charge is over like 15% it will allow you to precondition … The chemistry base is the same, NMC, I believe LFP is a bit more flexible in this respect.

Does it match the color of the seat belt? Mine are read and I would think black would look terrible attached to the red.
My belts are black and the same is the attached "thingy", so it looks o.k.However I don't know if it would be of the same colour when the belt is coloured.I think though it will be the same,red for the reds blue for the blue belts and so on.Agree it will look terrible if a black loop would be attached to a coloured seatbelt.

Dropped off my Macan 4 for service today. Confirmed software update will be VR28.13. Cargo area cover to be replaced, and seat belt retainer clip added (I declined the seat belt clip scope.)
Dropped off two days ago. App was in Privacy Mode all day yesterday. Back online today. Received a text yesterday evening that the software update was still in progress.

Had my Turbo updated today. Swapped to winter tyres, updated the software, changed the cargo cover and got the seatbelt thingy - black - on my seatbelt in turbonite color. Looked just fine. All in all took 5h. Can’t say I notice much different ’bout the car. The modem now says 5G. Happy!

I've not had the update yet but something we've all been crying for was shown off today in an Autogefuhl video with the GTS model in Dubai.
  • Max DC charging power in PCM & cluster display (along with a slightly updated layout)
  • Correct colour & model of car shown in displays! (Actually, it's still wrong as it shows a Macan turbo in the first picture)
Can anyone with the update confirm this is NOT part of VR28.13? If so we can assume it will be coming at delivery of MY26.

Not part of the update, also what is strange is that the optimal battery range seems way larger than the current one but starts at a higher temperature … bizar.
Have my car back, I do not see any and feel any difference after the update. I asked if it was done and they said yes and it should solve the intermittent warnings, not much more detail was given.

Can you post or send a picture of the ā€œsponge pad behind it to stop it rattling when not in useā€, because mine was replaced but it looked exactly the same as before. No sponge pad for sure.

Update after having this installed for 9 days. I have experienced two white warnings and LCA was not working at one trip after the update. The car was clean so that was not the issue. So much for that being fixed..

The car lost 5% while parked for 5 days. The loss was mostly sudden after the third day. Range estimate is as unstable as before.I don't see any actual improvements in battery management and range calculation.
Everything else feels the same.

Dropped off my car this am. Just got a text that they need to keep it over the weekend and likely until Tuesday. Said the software update has been running all day and then they need to test it and do the other recalls. My longest Tesla software update was 45 minutes 😳
