Yesterday I received an email from my Porsche dealer stating that there is a software update available for my car. My Macan is from January 2025 and has worked completely flawlessly to this day without a single error message, and still has the original software. I also hear stories that new error messages reappear after the software update. You can understand that I am hesitant to have the update performed. Especially considering that we are traveling from the Netherlands to Austria for two months in a few weeks, and I don't want to deal with problems in a distant foreign country. What should I do? Have it updated or just keep driving? šŸ¤”

I’m holding off on the update. My 2025 4S has not had any problems thus far, except for occasional software glitches that go away spontaneously or after locking the car and waiting a couple of minutes. My next scheduled service appointment is next year. I’m either going to wait until then or until Porsche releases another version that proves to be more reliable. I’m in no hurry and do not feel like gambling in the hopes that everything runs smoothly with the update and that I don’t get the AC charging problem.

If it's not safety related then defer. As soon as your car is at the dealership it will be updted regardless e.g. 2 year / 20K service interval.

Does the letter refer to a campaign number?

Personally I would proceed given Porsche support / series worldwide.

Appreciate the angst.

I have a 2025 Macan 4 that has been flawless. I am deferring on the upgrade - I prefer to let Porsche "learn" on someone else's vehicle.

No, the letter does not refer to any number. Below is the text from the email:

Software update available for your Porsche Macan.

To optimize your driving experience, a software update is ready for your Porsche Macan. This keeps your vehicle technically up to date and allows you to enjoy the latest features.

The key improvements at a glance:
• Faster internet: Optimized 5G connectivity for a seamless connection.
• Intelligent assistant: Google Search is now fully integrated into the Porsche voice assistant.
• Remote control: Open and close your electric charging port via the app from now on.
• Quieter display: A renewed display concept with fewer information notifications.

Sounds fairly innocuous but no need to rush if still feeling anxious.

As others have said they've had no ill effects which should be of no surprise as this will have been widely applied globally by now.

My Macan is April 2025 and needed a software update a month ago at 10500kms. The issues started with 9 warning messages regarding driver assistance systems not functioning although still safe to drive. However other issues kicked in eg. Radio not working, home charge down at 3.9 from the normal 7.4 and reduced range. Software update which took a full day at the dealership resolved all the issues. Suggest you get the software update before you travel!!

I'm holding off as well. If you have ongoing issues, sure roll the dice, but I'll wait for the next one (if there even is a next one). Now, if they really want to get me in there, they'll package CarKey as apart of the update 😁

I live 10 kilometers from my Porsche dealer and visited them today regarding the question of whether or not to perform the software update. They indicated that the choice to have the software update performed is entirely up to me and that I am therefore not obligated to do so. Not having the update performed has no impact on the factory warranty! I have agreed to have the update done when the car turns two years old and receives its first service at the dealer in January 2027.
