PTSD flash backs to Taycan forum issues with charging…

Porsche + software + EVSE(s) + scheduling = FAIL  and a clueless service network is just so so so bad…

Porsche is in trouble (and not just because of this) but they seem incapable of dealing with software faults - they always blame the hardware since that's their history…

they simple don't understand software and the institution doesn't know how to handle a problem that can't be fixed by swapping a component (like blaming the Tesla EVSE - which honestly like any EVSE is simply an on/off switch allowing raw AC power to flow or not flow - NOTE: the car controls the AC power flow _NOT_ the EVSE - sigh)

I'm holding off getting my 2024 Macan Turbo updates until I see how this plays out.
Given that I am not seeing any major issues (just minor periodic 'white' ADAS failures mostly due to slop on the sensors from road grit and snow), I am holding off on the update as well. I figure if it works, don't 'fix' it.. Once they've figured this out or if I have to go into the dealer then we will see.

the issue with Porsche is getting them to acknowledge they have a problem…there are many many barriers between the customer and engineering and most of the barriers are simply clueless and more than willing to blame the customer with no real curiosity to investigate…

they are simply sooooo stubborn and resistant to even entertaining there might be a problem - they they'd rather live with the problem and potentially lose a customer vs even entertaining that there might be an issue…

if it's an issue that can't be solved by physically swapping a component you're fighting an uphill battle with Porsche - and heaven help you if it's a pure software issues - like an actual bug in the software (for example displaying incorrect data)…

once they acknowledge a problem the engineer is normally quite good and very very good at actually resolving the core issue…but getting to that point can take forever to never.

Is this someone at Porsche NA? If so can you direct message me the email so I can reach out as well. The more of us in Canada/North America reporting the issue the better.

These options very helpful but couldn't resolve my issue. Tried everything.

This may be irrelevant or I may have missed something here but, when you plug in the portable charger into an outlet, I think the white power light should eventually turn green to indicate when it is ready to charge. When you plug in the car, the indicator may first turn yellow and then flash green when its is charging. I've seen the portable not go into the ready state at one public outlet, but it is a small sample size..

50% is the default and it may only switch to 100% after the power light goes green when the charger is set to 100%.

You're right, that's how it should work.

At the dealership: It's 100% (not 50%). White line turns green when the connection is set up b/w the charger and the car.

At my home: I think it's yellow but may be the pic doesn't show it. It is essentially to explain that the charger isn't able to make the connection with the car. There is an error code associated with this, which Porsche NA team found useful. When you tap on to 50%, it can change to 100% (there is a sensor on the charger itself). I tried both, nothing worked.

  • Year and Model: 2025 Macan 4S
  • Your Location: Chicago, IL
  • Charger at Home: Porsche MobileCharger, Emporia Level 2 Wall Charger. Both worked fine for 10 months until this software update.
  • Charging Port: Tried BOTH, Neither work.
  • Timeline: after update was done in late Jan, it charged at home one or two times then never again. Same error as everyone else has reported here.
  • Troubleshooting Steps Taken: Tried different chargers, locations (even public Level 2 doesn’t work). Only public Level 3 (both EA and Tesla Chargers work). Tried to charge in indoor heated garage at a friends apartment building and it doesn’t work.
  • Current Status: Very frustrated that Porsche doesn’t event acknowledge the issue. Dealer Service Advisors answers are infuriating. First he said only Chicago is experiencing the problem. Then I sent him this forum thread then they said oh ! we didn’t know this. Called Porsche NA; clueless and no call back. How can they ignore such a widespread problem.

Does anyone know if this kind of malfunction is covered under the lemon law ? What are an owners legal options.

I think I found something interesting regarding this charging issue. I bought a voltage meter and noticed a regular 120 outlet at my home was reading high 126-127. The level 2 charger would be double that. I also bought a surge protector that monitors the voltage from an outlet real time. The reading varies but when I saw it was reading low like 122-123, my level 2 charger finally worked. I’m starting to think the update might have changed something with a voltage check during the handshake. The voltage meters was pretty cheap, would appreciate if any others having this issue could let me know your readings to test this theory

I have been reviewing my Emporia charger voltage just prior to attempting to charge and can see that there seems to be a trend when below 250V across the charger I am able to get it to charge. Someone posted a thread about this earlier that they have missed voltage ranges allowed in NA when they updated the software. It was a separate thread to this but after reading I have had tried to make sense of why at times things are working perfectly fine and other times I am completely unable and I charge. My guess is the voltage sensitivity could be the reason and it’s why different locations allow for the same vehicles to charge. I will spend the next week tracking this to the best I can and report back.

How do I see voltage on my Emporia Charger ? Is this through the Emporia App or did you use a separate Voltmeter ?

Also, is there any charger where one can lower the voltage output ?

Emporia app, click on usage, click on your charger, and then in the top right select Volts. There is then in the bottom a live option or by the minute. I am going to track things but we typically have above 248 and as high as 251 here.
