I’m not sure whether this applies, but maybe…

Location-dependent charging settings in the Porsche Macan can interfere with home charging if not configured correctly
, often causing the car to delay charging or fail to start when plugged in at home.
Based on user experiences and Porsche guidance, the issues usually stem from conflicting schedules, software updates, or, more specifically,, an active departure timer.
Key Interference Factors & Fixes:
  • Active Departure Timers: If a departure time is set in your "home" profile, the car may wait to start charging until right before that time, rather than starting immediately when plugged in.
  • Failed Plug & Charge after Updates:Recent Porsche app updates have been known to deactivate Plug & Charge settings, causing home chargers to fail.
  • Incorrect Location Profile: The car may not properly recognize "Home" as the default location, or a "preferred charging time" (for off-peak rates) may be overriding your desire to charge immediately.
How to Resolve Home Charging Issues:
  1. Activate "Direct Charging": In the PCM (Porsche Communication Management) screen, go to the Charge menu and select "Direct Charging." This overrides any active timers or profiles and forces the car to start charging immediately.
  2. Check Location Settings: Ensure your home location is correctly set in the "Location-dependent charging" menu and that the profile matches your desired charging habits.
  3. Activate Compatibility Mode: If using a home charger that is not working with Plug & Charge, turn on "Compatibility Mode" in the PCM (Charging > Settings > Compatibility Mode).
  4. Use the Proper Port: Use the AC charging port (right side) for home charging.
  5. Check for "Red Light" Error: If you see a red LED in the charging socket, it means the plug is not locking properly. Listen for a click, or try unplugging and re-plugging.
If these methods do not work, it may be necessary to check for software updates or consult your dealership for a potential faulty cable or system update issue.

This all looks like a bit of a debacle and sorry to see people having this problem.

I wonder if any of you that have this problem have tried charging at your home with a portable generator (maybe a call out from your AAA? Or a friend with a Rivien or F150 Lightening?). If it charges from a different power source to your domestic power, then it’s something to do with the domestic power supply and the software, if not then it’s something to do with the software and GPS location.
Tried shutting down utility power source to activate whole house standby generator. Same problem with generator power.

Unfortunately, these troubleshooting steps don’t resolve the issue for those affected after the December software update. For several of us, that update appears to break home AC charging entirely.

I went through all of these steps back in December after installing a Tesla Wall Connector. Porsche had me reset the car to factory defaults and try multiple configurations. That process ended with Porsche stating they wouldn’t support Tesla home AC chargers.

To eliminate third-party variables, I hired an electrician to remove the hardwired Tesla unit and install a dedicated outlet so I could use the Porsche Mobile Charger exclusively. Voltage and wiring were verified and confirmed correct. Porsche also had me chase a false lead about my charger firmware being out of date, which the dealer later confirmed was already current.

The dealer even came to my house and verified that my setup can successfully charge other Porsche EVs — just not my Macan after the update.

At this point, my car has been at the dealer for 21 days with no fix and no meaningful communication from Porsche NA. Dealer points to NA, NA points back to the dealer. Posting here mainly to keep information current for others tracking this issue.

Thanks for sharing. I’m definitely worried about this issue and I’m closely following this thread for any news on what caused it and the way it was resolved. For now, I will continue to hold on getting the update since my car is basically problem-free.

I would like to add my observations on this problem prior to my 3rd appointment with the dealer next Thursday.

Since the November 2025 software update (Campaign WSJ0), I am unable to charge at home using either my hardwired unit (Grizzl-E Classic 40 Amp) or Porsche portable unit. Car will charge at dealer with Porsche portable unit, but only after reinstalling software update a second time.

Both chargers are able to charge neighbor's Rivian at my home. Factory resets do not solve the problem.

On dealer's advice that the problem probably lies with the electrical ground in our home, I had a master electrician check our house wiring. He verified that it is up to code and could not identify any problems with either the house wiring or the electrical supply, but as a precaution, he installed a new house ground wire. It did not solve the problem. ($950.00 in case you were wondering) Home electrical service measures 121.5/243.0 volts, 60.0 Hz with no load. Problem persists even with all house circuits turned off except for the charger circuit being used.

Neither charger indicates any fault codes, and both are capable of identifying faults with the electrical current.

Both chargers alternate between showing charging attempted for 5-6 seconds then showing charging paused for 5-6 seconds while the car charging port displays flashing white. Both chargers will repeat this cycle several times until the car rejects the charging attempts and displays solid red at the charging port and the PCM displays "Charging Currently Not Possible".

On rare occasions, if a departure time is selected, the charger will continue its on and off cycling attempts to charge right up to the departure time and may eventually connect just prior to the departure time and then continue charging well past the departure time until it reaches the target charge level. Doesn't always work.

I have attached the complex instructions to the dealers for installing WSJ0. Notice the warning on page 1 that because of numerous dealer screwups, a 23-step checklist on pages 17 and 18 must be completed and signed. My guess after seeing that a second software installation partially solved the problem, at least to the point where AC charging was possible at the dealer, is that the problem might be with the PROCESS of carefully installing the software. Will let you know how next Thursday goes.

Hi, wondering how yesterday’s appointment went at the dealer? Assuming your dealer was going to do something, since you mentioned Thursday on your last post. Maybe it’s for reinstalling the update by following the process carefully without skipping steps.

The service advisor and tech told me that getting the update will provide assurances the car will remain trouble free and they highly recommend it.. So it is damn if you do and damn if you don't. :)

Another data point:

Just got the car back after the update. Plugged it in at home and it started charging right away. Getting the full usual 9.2kw

Location is southern California

Charger is Autel

No departure time set.

Ditto. 2 Macan’s, 2 software updates, both charge normally at home. ChargePoint hardwired wall unit.

Hi, wondering how yesterday’s appointment went at the dealer? Assuming your dealer was going to do something, since you mentioned Thursday on your last post. Maybe it’s for reinstalling the update by following the process carefully without skipping steps.
It did not go well. I described the problem in detail to the service manager again and gave him a written summary and asked that he contact Porsche (since Porsche did not respond to me) and asked that they try another installation of the software if Porsche indicates that it is probably an installation error. He did neither. After 2 days in the shop, they said they found 2 error codes in memory which they deleted, and since they found those, they felt there was no need to go any further. Their expectation was that the problem was either solved or it was my problem at home.

They emphasized that I am the only one with this problem, and since it is a small dealership, it may be true. In fact, it may be true at many dealerships, but based on the discussion in this forum, it is not an isolated problem.

I spent an hour on the phone this morning with Porsche NA. I finally got through to someone after 4 emails went unanswered except for a form letter response saying someone will get back to me. We went through all the tedious steps that we all have been through to rule things out, and I took pictures along the way. In response to his request, I sent in a summary of my experience, the photos, and the name of the dealer and service manager.

The bottom line is that I do not think that Porsche is fully aware of the problem, or if they are, perhaps they do not think it effects enough people to warrant any action. On the dealer side, if the problem is the software installation process, perhaps they are afraid they might not get reimbursed by Porsche for 5 hours of labor to reinstall software that they screwed up.

Porsche NA (Tony) promised a response in a week or 2 after escalating it to the appropriate people.

My only suggestion would be for everyone with this problem to concentrate their efforts on one place (Porsche NA) so that the excuse that it is a unique and isolated problem cannot be used.

I got through by dialing 800-767-7243 plus 0 for menu then 3 for customer support then 3 again for a person to talk to.

Just throwing this out there in case it triggers an idea.

Years ago I enabled tracking features in a EVSE only to find out that the mothership needed to authenticate the car before it would allow charging. I found that the EVSE wireless and the network back to the mothership (and perhaps the mothership server) was not reliable enough and there were often times charging failed. Disabling the features and just using it as a dumb EVSE resolved all the problems.

Does your home EVSE(s) talk to a mothership? Some can authorize and block specific VINS. Some will automatically block VINs when certain errors are detected. A year ago my Macan VIN got on a bad boy list and it refused to home charge from my newer more sophisticated EVSE. This couldn't be resolved by factory reseting the EVSE for some reason.

Porsche had a very small but competent staff working out of Georgia. It took weeks to get connected to them, but they found a mothership error was sorted out pretty quick once I got to the right person.

I didn't go back through the thread to see if you tried different EVSEs at your home. My Macan would charge with my simple dumb EVSE, but not the more sophisticated fuller featured one.

Have you reached out to your EVSE brand tech support.? If you do, don't mention the software update unless asked. as it would be too easy to blame it on the car.

Otherwise there is a lot of talk here about poor facility grounding or connections, I wouldn't be surprised that compromised connections or grounding within the car would cause similar issues. Any evidence of rodent damage?

Thanks for the response. It's a dumb EVSE (Grizzl-E Classic 40 Amp). From the start, all I wanted was the ability to plug it in and walk away without any WiFi complications. And yes, I contacted United Chargers. They were good to talk to but couldn't offer any insight. Same problem with Porsche portable charger. As far as rodent damage, unlikely, except there I again am at the mercy of the dealer to find something like that.

The thing I learn from this is that at Porsche they really do not follow the forums, and yes, now days you do not even need to do it via a human ... the fact that they do not pick this up is borderline crazy ...
I do not have proof, but BMW is watching this kind of backlash and fix or add features ... I remember vividly that old iX's would not get the manual pre heating button, which on the form initiated a heated discussion, some month's later boom it was there for the old iX's ... Could have been better communicated, but still ...

On topic, do the Porsches that refuse home AC charging refuse AC Charging at most places or just some?

FB group same issue, probably some are here as well :

The fact that they’re insisting you’re the only one with this problem is not only disappointing but also insulting given how many have opened tickets with Porsche NA with the same complaint. If they’re blaming it on your house, maybe you should ask them to bring a Taycan to charge at your house. If it charges, it’s not your house. I tested my home infrastructure by bringing multiple vehicles to charge at my house and all of them charge. Also, I can’t remember if you already hired an electrician to check your connections, and if you did, also proves it’s not the installation. I did all of that, and I even got my hydro provider to come check my home’s line to line. They found that it was on the higher end and installed a transformer to lower the voltage coming into the home. That still didn’t fix the problem. The voltage threshold is typically +/- 10v for most EVs. I question whether Porsche ever issued an internal letter notifying all dealerships of this potential issue with the update.

They can’t possibly say the problem is solved if you still can’t charge at home. That’s simply not acceptable.

I personally have tried multiple EVSE. And as far I know, the Porsche Mobile Charger is not that sophisticated and it doesn’t connect to wifi.

This as far as I’m concerned based on all our combined findings here, is not an EVSE problem.
