I’m not sure whether this applies, but maybe…

Location-dependent charging settings in the Porsche Macan can interfere with home charging if not configured correctly
, often causing the car to delay charging or fail to start when plugged in at home.
Based on user experiences and Porsche guidance, the issues usually stem from conflicting schedules, software updates, or, more specifically,, an active departure timer.
Key Interference Factors & Fixes:
  • Active Departure Timers: If a departure time is set in your "home" profile, the car may wait to start charging until right before that time, rather than starting immediately when plugged in.
  • Failed Plug & Charge after Updates:Recent Porsche app updates have been known to deactivate Plug & Charge settings, causing home chargers to fail.
  • Incorrect Location Profile: The car may not properly recognize "Home" as the default location, or a "preferred charging time" (for off-peak rates) may be overriding your desire to charge immediately.
How to Resolve Home Charging Issues:
  1. Activate "Direct Charging": In the PCM (Porsche Communication Management) screen, go to the Charge menu and select "Direct Charging." This overrides any active timers or profiles and forces the car to start charging immediately.
  2. Check Location Settings: Ensure your home location is correctly set in the "Location-dependent charging" menu and that the profile matches your desired charging habits.
  3. Activate Compatibility Mode: If using a home charger that is not working with Plug & Charge, turn on "Compatibility Mode" in the PCM (Charging > Settings > Compatibility Mode).
  4. Use the Proper Port: Use the AC charging port (right side) for home charging.
  5. Check for "Red Light" Error: If you see a red LED in the charging socket, it means the plug is not locking properly. Listen for a click, or try unplugging and re-plugging.
If these methods do not work, it may be necessary to check for software updates or consult your dealership for a potential faulty cable or system update issue.

This all looks like a bit of a debacle and sorry to see people having this problem.

I wonder if any of you that have this problem have tried charging at your home with a portable generator (maybe a call out from your AAA? Or a friend with a Rivien or F150 Lightening?). If it charges from a different power source to your domestic power, then it’s something to do with the domestic power supply and the software, if not then it’s something to do with the software and GPS location.
Tried shutting down utility power source to activate whole house standby generator. Same problem with generator power.

Unfortunately, these troubleshooting steps don’t resolve the issue for those affected after the December software update. For several of us, that update appears to break home AC charging entirely.

I went through all of these steps back in December after installing a Tesla Wall Connector. Porsche had me reset the car to factory defaults and try multiple configurations. That process ended with Porsche stating they wouldn’t support Tesla home AC chargers.

To eliminate third-party variables, I hired an electrician to remove the hardwired Tesla unit and install a dedicated outlet so I could use the Porsche Mobile Charger exclusively. Voltage and wiring were verified and confirmed correct. Porsche also had me chase a false lead about my charger firmware being out of date, which the dealer later confirmed was already current.

The dealer even came to my house and verified that my setup can successfully charge other Porsche EVs — just not my Macan after the update.

At this point, my car has been at the dealer for 21 days with no fix and no meaningful communication from Porsche NA. Dealer points to NA, NA points back to the dealer. Posting here mainly to keep information current for others tracking this issue.

Thanks for sharing. I’m definitely worried about this issue and I’m closely following this thread for any news on what caused it and the way it was resolved. For now, I will continue to hold on getting the update since my car is basically problem-free.

I would like to add my observations on this problem prior to my 3rd appointment with the dealer next Thursday.

Since the November 2025 software update (Campaign WSJ0), I am unable to charge at home using either my hardwired unit (Grizzl-E Classic 40 Amp) or Porsche portable unit. Car will charge at dealer with Porsche portable unit, but only after reinstalling software update a second time.

Both chargers are able to charge neighbor's Rivian at my home. Factory resets do not solve the problem.

On dealer's advice that the problem probably lies with the electrical ground in our home, I had a master electrician check our house wiring. He verified that it is up to code and could not identify any problems with either the house wiring or the electrical supply, but as a precaution, he installed a new house ground wire. It did not solve the problem. ($950.00 in case you were wondering) Home electrical service measures 121.5/243.0 volts, 60.0 Hz with no load. Problem persists even with all house circuits turned off except for the charger circuit being used.

Neither charger indicates any fault codes, and both are capable of identifying faults with the electrical current.

Both chargers alternate between showing charging attempted for 5-6 seconds then showing charging paused for 5-6 seconds while the car charging port displays flashing white. Both chargers will repeat this cycle several times until the car rejects the charging attempts and displays solid red at the charging port and the PCM displays "Charging Currently Not Possible".

On rare occasions, if a departure time is selected, the charger will continue its on and off cycling attempts to charge right up to the departure time and may eventually connect just prior to the departure time and then continue charging well past the departure time until it reaches the target charge level. Doesn't always work.

I have attached the complex instructions to the dealers for installing WSJ0. Notice the warning on page 1 that because of numerous dealer screwups, a 23-step checklist on pages 17 and 18 must be completed and signed. My guess after seeing that a second software installation partially solved the problem, at least to the point where AC charging was possible at the dealer, is that the problem might be with the PROCESS of carefully installing the software. Will let you know how next Thursday goes.

Hi, wondering how yesterday’s appointment went at the dealer? Assuming your dealer was going to do something, since you mentioned Thursday on your last post. Maybe it’s for reinstalling the update by following the process carefully without skipping steps.

The service advisor and tech told me that getting the update will provide assurances the car will remain trouble free and they highly recommend it.. So it is damn if you do and damn if you don't. :)

Another data point:

Just got the car back after the update. Plugged it in at home and it started charging right away. Getting the full usual 9.2kw

Location is southern California

Charger is Autel

No departure time set.

Ditto. 2 Macan’s, 2 software updates, both charge normally at home. ChargePoint hardwired wall unit.
