This is a Macan forum, but several people are thinking about the Cayenne EV. I had a chance to see it today (no chance to drive it), and will post some pictures and brief observations. Obviously, the Cayenne is larger than the Macan. I think this is the key difference between the two. Yes, there are a lot of other things; the Cayenne is quite nice inside, but you can upgrade the Macan nicely (which I did, with most option boxes checked on my 2024 Macan 4). The Cayenne Turbo is more powerful and faster (the Cayenne Turbo is Porsche’s highest horsepower production vehicle). Yet unless one opts for the Cayenne Turbo (with power that I feel is largely irrelevant on most roads), the power of the Cayenne base and S are not terribly different from the Macan S and GTS. So I was left thinking the Cayenne is mostly for someone who needs the extra space, a family of four or someone who needs the extra room in the back. There is, of course, one other difference that will matter to some: the Cayenne is the more prestigious vehicle. Yet sitting in it, I asked myself if any of the enhancements would cause me to spend about 50% more, say, US $40,000-60,000 more, on an equally configured vehicle. For some, that money is trivial and for others it will be a show-stopper. I’m somewhere in the middle, but I simply don’t need the extra space.
The other thing to think about is where the battery technology is headed. I’d rather now own the less expensive, but equally fantastic Macan, and then possibly upgrade to the Cayenne EV when solid state batteries arrive.
