I've done 9,700 in my Turbo and both rears are down to 3mm, which is the measurement my dealer says I ought to replace them at. I'll be waiting for another mm off yet! 295/40 R 21 Michelin Pilot Sport EV

The less thread the longer stopping distance, especially so in the wet. From Discount Tire’s URL:

4/32” is my absolute minumum.

Tire wear on an EV is HIGHLY correlated with driver behavior. You will hear and read of horror stories where individuals claim "tires wear out in 10,000 miles or less". That is because they are accelerating aggressively a LOT of the time. Drive it "normally" and you'll easily get 30,000 miles or more out of them.

Not in my experience. Barely got 15k miles using 2 different brands. Same driving on ICE got me 30K miles. I will try non-EV tyres for the 3rd set to see if it makes a difference. I suspect the EV tyres are tuned for range not wear. No comment on the Macan wear as too early to tell (under 5k miles).

1.6mm is the legal limit, replace at 3mm in the winter unless you like aquaplaning or low speed driving.

Well, again, my experience differs from yours. Prior to a Macan EV I had a 2022 Audi E-tron (original, full size E-tron). Traded that in for the Macan at a dealer in Chicago that had both a Porsche and Audi store. Vehicle had 30,000 miles on it when traded - the Audi store "Certified" it - and sold it with the original tires still on it. They were Continental tires - quiet and wore well.

Reason tyres wear on an EV is not the driver but:
1) weight, put 30-40% more weight/load on the tyres = more wear
2) max torque at 0 rpm = more wear
3) regen = more wear (sacrifice tyres to save on disk/pad wear)
4) soft compound to maximize range = more wear
5) soft compound to maximize grip (due to torque delivery / power/ weight / etc.) = more wear
6) soft compound to minimize noise = more wear

My EV compared to yours had:
1) smaller tyres = more wear (more rotations to cover same distance / smaller patch has to handle the load/etc.)
2) rwd = more wear (as power always distributed to 2 wheels only)
3) more highway miles (limited city miles) = heat in the tyres = more wear

Anyway I can destroy a set of tyres in a few minutes if I am so inclined or drive 10 years on the same set if my life depended on it, this is irrelevant, what is relevant is facts and the fact is EVs are much harder on tyres than ICE and will always wear tyres much faster all other factors being equal (and that includes the driver/driving style as well).

Regen doesn’t cause more wear. The tire doesn’t care whether the braking force is from regen or the brake pads.

Softer tire compounds create more drag and lower range.

with 2 I-paces I was getting about 15,000 miles. With 400HP and using it when appropriate I was ok with that. I'm expecting the macan 4 to be similar.

Macan AWD models have a substantial rear wheel drive bias unless you are in slippery conditions. Most importantly - there is no "Y" in tire.........................

I was thinking about tire life just today. I believe shorter EV tire life is, in part, due to a natural tendency to accelerate more quickly (because of the greater torque). I do it. Not even trying, I find I leave the ICE vehicles behind when leaving the stop light. Even my wife, the ultimate slow and careful driver, surprised me today with her more spirited acceleration from a stop light. She wouldn’t have done that in an ICE vehicle. I don’t think she even noticed what she was doing.

Given more tire life or fun, I pick fun.

Ev tires are designed for the increased weight, for 1
2. That engineering for increase weight means a stiffer carcass, not softer

EV tuned tires have a harder compound, softer compounds have more rolling resistance. for a number of reasons. AS tires have a harder compound than max summer, but max summer has less tread squirm. There is a video link posted here somewhere about the EV tire difference.

I would not go below 3mm, and I live in California where we have great weather all year except for rainy week ...
