Sorry but battery conditioning is needed, both cooling when to hot and heating when to cold …
Yes, battery conditioning is needed and performed automatically by the car. Preconditioning is another matter.
I’ve personally done the test and when your battery is ā€œcoldā€ not entering a destination, the charging curve is slow and it does add way more then 1 - 3 minutes
It doesn't. It's just math, not magic. Q=mcT.

At 0C, the 10-80% charging time is only reduced from 21 to 22 minutes.

Battery preheating can change the temperature by roughly 10C (6kW heating element at 100% efficiency running 30 minutes will produce 3kW, equal to ~10MJ, which will raise 600kg of battery mass 10C). That is not enough to slow charging by more than 5 minutes in any but the most extreme temperature conditions.
Yes charging will heat the battery but when cold the fast charging is slow and so the heat generation is also low
Driving, charging, and conditioning will all heat the battery.

There is absolutely nothing that preconditioning does that driving the car doesn't also accomplish. The same heating elements will raise the same battery pack by the same amount just by driving around for 20-30 minutes.

If your fast charger is more than 30 minutes away, preconditioning doesn't do much because the car will already be at operating temperature. If your fast charger is 10 minutes away, preconditioning won't do much because it doesn't have enough time to raise the temperature.

So unless you're doing pre-departure preconditioning in an antarctic wind tunnel 5 minutes away from a DC fast charger, you're not slowing your charging time down by more than 5 minutes.

very informative. So all the Tesla and BMW owners that rave about how efficient their EV systems are by preconditioning are really only saving a few minutes !

The car lost 5% while parked for 5 days. The loss was mostly sudden after the third day.
not related to the wsj0 update, there is a thread dedicated to that issue.
mine was 0% per day, and in the same conditions, it's 1% loss per day since mid of October ; and it's more or less around the installation of the previous update wsd0 On my car.

However, my car is at the dealership since 20 day to solve my red circle of death issue, and it seems that a pin connection on one specific module is the root cause. They are waiting for a special tool from Germany to check that.
maybe this intermittent pin connection problem also suspends the deep sleep?

keep you posted

In UK during winter and low ambient temps the preconditioning prior to DC charging will not be achieved by simply driving around. Driving like you stole it in Sport Plus will help but not practical for many.

My experience is with 2 Taycans and unless the battery was around 32C max DC charging was highly unlikely if ever.

Latest Taycan and Macan have a different battery chemistry (also a key factor) which addresses this requirement to some degree along with a better charging profile. Pre-conditioning is still advantageous particularly in low ambient and when the battery is cold.

I've had a couple of loaner Taycan J1.2 and Macan EVs which I've had to charge - none achieved their best charging rate due to lack of pre-conditioning.

Driving in the summer months on a decent run at a decent pace will obviously improve things as the battery will be warmer making preconditioning less of an imperative.

Older EVs (any) will most definitely charge quicker if pre-conditioned than not.

Personally, I charged mainly at home and so pre-conditioning wasn't a thing. Cabin pre-heat was but even this after an overnight charge did little to optimise the battery temp in winter.

Not part of the update, also what is strange is that the optimal battery range seems way larger than the current one but starts at a higher temperature … bizar.
Have my car back, I do not see any and feel any difference after the update. I asked if it was done and they said yes and it should solve the intermittent warnings, not much more detail was given.
I noticed that too, I believe the GTS has improved battery cooling being better suited to track driving.

What this does mean though is that VR28.13 is not that big an update and there will be more to come with MY26 rollout.

Expect more from MY26 in terms of options / features / updates but don't expect retro upgrades such as Porsche Digital Key (hardware - door handle internals - are different) for example.

GTS is not a track car either IMHO. It may be lower (10mm) to the ground and have PTV+ (also an option in the range) but that a track car does not make (too heavy and tall for starters).

Cars with Sports Chrono when set to Sport Plus mode will open up 'Track Endurance Mode' and is not specific to the GTS.

Blurb:

Sport Chrono Package with Track Endurance Mode
- Analog and digital stopwatch
- Sport Plus mode with performance-oriented chassis tuning, Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA) and temperature control of the battery
- Integrated Sport Chrono tile with recording of lap times and telemetry data, including the possibility to add your own tracks as well as analyze sectors and laps
- PSM Sport Mode
- Track Endurance Mode: preconditioning of the battery for improved performance on the racetrack

I've not had the update yet but something we've all been crying for was shown off today in an Autogefuhl video with the GTS model in Dubai.
  • Max DC charging power in PCM & cluster display (along with a slightly updated layout)
  • Correct colour & model of car shown in displays! (Actually, it's still wrong as it shows a Macan turbo in the first picture)
Can anyone with the update confirm this is NOT part of VR28.13? If so we can assume it will be coming at delivery of MY26.

I believe that shows the driver's seat is occupied and the belt is fastened, the passenger seat is occupied and unfastened, and the 3 rear seats are empty.

The current solution for the seatbelt was very simple. Not sure whey they did the Christmas lights drunken robot thing. The battery on top of the car is also an overkill. Simple is always better. Tesla has a nice visualisation for the seatbelt but the rest of the car is shit šŸ˜…

Can’t speak for Tesla owners, I’ve owned Volvo, Audi, BMW EVs and never had trouble fast charging on trips down to -5C/20F in winter or up to 35C/95F in summer without punching in a destination or manually preconditioning.

It’s possible precondition may have been even better in these extremes, it isn’t something one can easily know, I can only say that I never had a problem hitting the max rate capable. When I do fail to hit max it is almost always in completely normal weather and due to the station, moving fixes it.

Back to the software update topic, I picked up my 4S from service today where 5 recalls were addressed in 1-1/2 days including the VR28.13 software update, luggage compartment cover replacement, front passenger seatbelt slider replacement, and reversing camera replacement (see repair notes below).

Hopefully the software update permanently fixes the frequent Assistance Systems Limited warnings I received. I preferred the leather cover over the seatbelt buckle that I previously purchased to prevent rattling rather than the cheesy seatbelt loop that was installed (see photo below). I can’t tell yet if the reversing camera replacement has improved the view since I really hated the fish-eye distortion which always makes it look like I’m about to hit other cars when I’m nowhere close to doing so.

I suggest someone starts a new thread related to battery preconditioning since there seems to be a lot of interest in that topic as well…
