Thinking about changing my Macan S ICE for a Macan EV. Preliminary chat with my insurance company (NFU) and they won’t insure a Macan EV unless there is a tracker fitted. This has never been the case with my current car. Has anyone managed to get their car insured without a tracker?

I used Compare the Market to get a range of quotes - none required a tracker

Went with Admiral - not quite the cheapest but offered something I can't remember that was marginally better than thing I can't remember from the cheapest quote.

Cost was £552 for their Gold tier cover with £600 Excess . I think the cheapest quote was around £520/530 and the most expensive about £6,000.

Compare the Market gives you a free £250 Excess cover so you can insure with a £250 higher excess than you want which helps reduce the premium a little bit.

Great car - go for it.

I was with NFU for years but they ramped up and doubled the quote from insuring a 4 to 4s. As you say they required a tracker.

I went to Admiral and I paid £ 1,000 less for our 2 cars and house insurance. I'm pretty sure they don't require a tracker. I have one as I have had them on the last 3 cars.

I was told by Porsche UK that if I fitted a non-Porsche tracker, if there was an electrical issue the warranty may be invalidated. I have the Porsche / Vodafone monitored system. It's very good but more expensive than others.

We have insurance through CONNECT (Ameriprise from COSTCO) and did not have to have a tracker. And it's pretty close to the same premium we paid for my 2014 Audi Q5 TDI, so, happy.

Also, like someone else said on this thread, it's a WONDERFUL car. Go for it.

(I've loved several cars in my life, but with this one, it's almost unnatural -LOL)

Dump them and bid it out. However you might want to do more than just just look at price for some car insurance companies have very low rate but compared to their market have ultra low payout ratios when you need them.

No tracker required on my Turbo (State Farm).

I went with Admiral. They are not a great company, but their rates are cheap, especially if you add cars, etc.

They did not require a tracker.

When I used the online compare tools, most places would drop £100 off the annual premium if you had a tracker. The Porsche tracker installation was £999 and an annual fee of £250, so clearly it was not worth it. I considered other installations, but out of concern regarding warranty issues with the EV, I have not done it. Instead, I had a serious bollard installed in the driveway.

What was really irritating was that I was refused the gratis Porsche 5-day insurance cover for new purchases without a tracker. They claimed that the Porsche thefts in London are too high for them. to cover without it. The person at the insurance company (supposedly arm's length from Porsche) told me how much it would be to have the tracker installed by Porsche. No collusion there.

Try Admiral - imho NFU are a rip off and only do good deals for Tory/Reform supporting farmers!
