You must have been comparing Turbo's or the US prices are entirely different to the UK. All my costs come from the UK configuration and my priced order.

great post - thanks for sharing

2 charging ports

1 charging port = NACS for fast charging - NACS native and CCS via Adapter
1 charging port = J-1772 for AC (slow) charging - NACS via Adapter

it's unclear from Porsche's announcements if the native NACS port is AC/DC or DC Only - I'm going to guess DC only - because AC/DC via NACS is slightly complex requiring an OBC capable of multi-plexing AC/DC current…Tesla does it but apparenlty Porsche can't…
Rivian does it too.

I saw something (I believe last month) that said the NACS port was DC only, and they planned to eventually make it both AC and DC but that would not be a retrofit / software update, it would only apply to the new units once they got it to work.

I don't think these are comparable vehicles when you factor in driving experience.
Macan is fun to drive, it's still a toss-it-around car.
Cayenne will not be that.

I was comparing a 2026 Macan Turbo EV with the options I have on my 2025 against a Cayenne Turbo EV with equivalent options plus anything that's new on that model which I would want. The Cayenne was an extra $72,733.

2026 Macan Turbo EV $145,950

2026 Cayenne Turbo EV $218,683

The Turbo Cayenne is a very expensive car - at UK prices the start price is £ 33k more than the Macan Turbo. The Macan is £ 20k more than a 4S but the Cayenne Turbo is £ 30k more than an S.

It will be interesting to see how many Turbo’s are sold compared to say the S. In the UK the major insurance companies are declining to quote as the car has not yet been ā€˜insurance certified’ but Porsche Insurance will quote. I wonder how much cover will be for a 2.5t car capable of 0-60 in 2.5 seconds.

Last Thursday, one of the Philadelphia/suburb dealers had a Cayenne ā€œeventā€ at their retail space in the King of Prussia mall. I took them up on their ā€œinvitationā€, thinking there might be some hoopla, ride-along, etc.

I got to the space a little after an hour after opening to find the ā€œspace managerā€ there chewing the fat with another customer. I told them that I was here for ā€œthe eventā€. He handed me a folder containing maybe six or seven double sided PowerPoint slides printed on nice glossy paper, and directed me to the Turbo in the front of the store and the Base in the back.

So, after giving the Turbo the once over, I drug him away from his fat chewing session long enough to ask a few questions about the vehicle. After hinming and hawing a bit, he finally admitted that the only info Porsche had provided was in the folder he gave me, and that they only received those materials one day before the ā€œeventā€.

In the meantime, a few others wandered in to look at the Turbo, so I checked out the base in the meantime. On what was to be my way out, I asked the manager if anyone from the brand was coming. He pointed to a jacketed man sitting at the counter who looked like he’d rather be at his doctor’s office getting a DRE. I proceeded to ask him some questions about the EV Cayenne, updates of the 718 EV, etc. From his replies it sounded like he had maybe perused those same slides while having his morning coffee. He also clearly had less than zero enthusiasm for EVs, so after a few minutes the conversation petered out. I made my excuses and left, which he was no doubt grateful for.

I guess my expectations were too high for this ā€œeventā€. I can tell you though that at the Rivian space right across from the Porsche space, they have frequent events with at least conversational, and usually knowledgeable brand ambassadors and occasionally corporate folks.

Bravo, Porsche. If nothing else, the ā€œeventā€
did confirm that at least for me, the Cayenne EV didn’t offer anything over my Macan, especially for the premium MSRP.

WOW!! Truly miserable. I've noticed that my dealer has no EV's on the show floor any more. Hybrid Cayenne yes.. Pure EV's .. none. On the other hand, several of the sales folks actually own Macan EV's and love them. One guy told me he got 2 of them.. one for him (4S) and one for his wife (4). They were very excited about the Cayenne but had not gotten any yet to show off. Posche seems clearly stuck at this point. Along with market share, they have lost some of their identity and seem truly confused on future direction. The next couple of years will tell which way they will go on EV's .. Nice that Rivian and others are not so confused.

Received an email invitation yesterday to the Cayenne event at my dealership in San Francisco for ā€œThursday June 23ā€ā€¦ which is a Tuesday if that’s the date. Will have to clarify.

I would clarify as it seems the ā€˜global launch’ is the 26th June. In Europe the dealers are banned from registering cars as demos until then.
