engine runs while charging overnight

After the latest software update, I set my Macan 4EV to charge overnight, in my garage, for an 8 A.M. departure. Got up around 6am and heard the Macan engine running (sounds like climate control engine revving) but I could not turn it off. I tried everything but it ran until 8am. I only reached 287 SOC at 95%. Not sure what to think of this. Will try again before my return trip. Thanks, appreciate any feedback.

Not sure what you are referring to, but if you mean that you could hear some kind of “fan” from the outside of the car running at high frequency, that’s just the car cooling down the battery, especially if it is in warm weather.

That makes sense, I live in the desert, so the garage could heat to 120*. I'd not thought of it but I'll try again, thank you,

yes, but I could only get to SOC 287 rather than 360+

Normal for hot garage charging.
Target charging does not go miles 287/360 (that is a wild guess), it goes by SoC in %, so if you set it to 85% then it will reach it by the departure time assuming you plug it in to allow enough time to reach that target. As soon as the charging starts, you can see in the App when it will reach target charge.

the SOC is a guess and easily mislead - experienced EV owners ignore it

my Porsche 911 GT3 after a whole day on the track thinks I can only drive 107 miles on a full tank of gas - and it would be right if I was driving on track al the way home.

the SOC milage estimate is called the "guess-o-meter" and it's not to be relied upon - the only accurate measure of battery capacity is the % SOC…

the guess-o-meter is easily lead astray by recent driving consumption and has no idea what is going to happen in front of it…

if you want an accurate estimate of how far you can drive put your destination in to the PCM navigation and check the battery % at your destination…navigation knows about speed limits and elevation changes and likely consumption generating a much much more accurate estimate…

the SOC milage is simply a random number generator to be ignored when ever possible…

And to be more precise, that's called range, not SOC.

SOC is the battery percentage.

Range (as displayed by the range meter, a.k.a the Guess-O-Meter) is the estimated miles the car will go based on recent driving speeds and patterns. (Which of course will vary greatly since most people aren't going to drive the same speeds and patterns every time.)

I can attest to that --- previously I had a Volvo C40, and a Chevy Bolt before that. I could charge them on the 110V in my desert condo and they'd add a handful of miles overnight. With the Macan-4, in the desert in the summer, it picked up 1% after 5-hours. Awaiting installation of Level-2 charging and possibly some HVAC solution to cool the garage...

Thanks for this, I'll try charging in the morning during our heat wave. Be sure to check with your local Electric company for rebates for charging after midnight and Level-2 installation.

The fans take up negligible energy compared to the battery charging. Those fans likely mean that the cooling system is active (the fans cool the heat exchanger) which while consumes more energy, is needed to cool the battery while charging. Otherwise the battery can be damaged. If it is 120 in the garage, then I am not surprised that the cooling is running. Do you have any ventilation in the garage? All that heat coming from the cooling system has to go somewhere and if it just sits in the garage warming the ambient air (that is needed to extract the heat from the cooling system), it is less efficient.
