Context: first time EV owner, early March purchased CPO 4S w ~2k miles (loaner), city versus highway driving is 70%/30%, coming from a 2015 BMW 435i so zero experience with all of the “safety” tech that has come into play over the last decade.

Summary: Recently had what can only be described as a violent phantom braking experience. First month no incidents of AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking). Second month two jolts for no apparent reason but nothing like the whiplash-level event just experienced.

Dropped at the dealer this morning. AI suggested I ask to check the Active Safety logs for that day/time to “see what the radar and camera were seeing at that exact moment” to show if the car saw a phantom object or if a sensor momentarily glitched. Dealer said they would look into if that was possible as “Germany” only allows them to pull data with sufficient reasoning. I am guessing that since “Germany” pays for service they have to authorize what gets done and/or they don’t want disclosure of hard data that could show a glitch for liability reasons. They are staring with the software update. I assumed this was the WSJ0 Campaign; however, just realized the tech used the world "recall" when referencing it today.

Question: Anyone ever ask for this type of info and successfully get it? I don’t fully trust AI to be accurate so unclear if it is possible.

Thanks in advance.

In my experience with a totally flawed Macan Turbo and several big issues still unresolved, my particular dealership NEVER gave me an inch of a log coming from the Macan.
moreover, they provided me with explanations that always seemed contradictory and/or dumb.
search for logs in this forum, you will find None.

regarding the problem you've experienced, it's a common issue with modern cars. You will experience others when going back for instance.
With Macan, phantom breaking going forward is rare, for instance in comparison with Tesla vision system thanks to the lidar.

What were the circumstances when the braking occurred?

I have had the emergency braking kick in while backing up a couple times in the 7 weeks I’ve had my car. Last week in my company parking lot I was talking on my hands free and it happened so quickly I thought I hit a parked car (I didn’t). It’s never happened moving forward.

The comment about this being an issue with modern cars is true. We’ve had a Pailsade for about 3 years and this happens once every month or two.

I’ve noticed that there are certain parking lots where the design and traffic in seems to confuse the software in my Palisade. I’m sure I’ll see the same thing in the Macan over time

So what you need to do is to disable Manoevering Assist when reversing.

Tap the icon with the traffic cone when Park Assist is active to temporarily disable - may be different on Macan but that's what I do on my 911.

Thanks - I'll report back what, if anything, they give me.

Scenario: low traffic, t-junction intersection with stop sign not light, accelerating left turn from a full stop, immediate slam, miracle not rear-ended. Daytime, no precipitation, no wind, no sun glare, no man-hole covers or other metal on the street, no obstruction on the radar panel or windshield camera, no random squirrels darting out, no pedestrians/bikers/scooters at any point. No variation in the pavement color/texture/quality/age. Nothing.

10 minutes before the ASM (Active Suspension Management) system kicked in and lowered the car whilst stationary at a drive-through. This also happened several times in the previous two weeks all whilst stationary. I do not have any locations saved for lift/lower.

Realize these are likely coincidental events but happening so close in time has only served to add suspicion to the flat out fear of the vehicle. By no means a technical person but if the car thinks for itself when adjusting height - it must, in part, use input from radar and cameras - could be totally off here.
Height adjustment is normally due to speed only (or selected drive mode) and will automatically lower (and then raise) to be more efficient when the threshold is reached.

Sounds like you have a couple of gremlins there.

Ooh - this is my area of expertise! If you search my posts from the last year you'll find me moaning about this A LOT lol The summary version of the story is:

Nov 24 - took delivery of the car

Following 12 months - loads of impending crash warnings with nothing in front of me (literally two out of every 3 journeys) and at least 3 whiplash/emergency stop events (thankfully no one ran into the back of me). Also once instance of a phantom pedal cyclist on the motorway apparently doing over 70 mph in the fast lane when I was in the middle lane lol Car also regularly tried to pull me into the middle of the road and into oncoming traffic because it wasn't reading the white lines correctly either. Lots of visits to the dealership about it which were always fobbed off with 'it will get fixed in the next software update' or similar.

Dec 25 - crashed the car! Nearly got run off the road by two speeding police cars and in the process I clipped the rear corner of a parked car at low speed (dashcam shows approx. 25mph, so plenty of scope for the safety systems to have kicked in). NO impending crash warning, NO emergency breaking or collision avoidance.

January 26 - into the body shop via my insurer for the repairs which were a replacement bumper and passenger wing (which took 10 weeks due to parts and body shop issues) including a trip to Porsche as the body shop couldn't seem to get the safety systems to work properly. Went to pick it up - warning lights still on the dash for an assortment of safety systems. Back to Porsche it went!

When it went to Porsche for that second time, I emailed my contact in the service department to remind him of all of the past issues I'd had with the car, the emergency breaking that had occurred, the circumstances of the crash etc. and told them that what I thought they should actually be looking to identify and fix was a historic issue with the car from new, not an issue relating to the crash/the sensors in the bumper. Thankfully that is what they did - 3 weeks, a lot of trial and error testing, a consultation with Porsche HQ, and a complete change of the camera array in the windscreen and it's finally working as it should! I had 2 collision warnings (after first picking up the car) but none in the last month, and no phantom emergency stops. The speed limit identification now works 70 ish percent of the time (vs 10% pre-crash, when on one instance it tried to slow me down to 5mph on a 70mph road which was dropping to 50 mph - thankfully there wasn't anything directly behind me when the car randomly slammed the anchors on). Route topography is now also on, although does nothing.

So basically I had been driving a car with faulty safety systems from November 24 until the crash. Had I not have crashed, I still would be as the dealer was taking no notice of my complaints each time it went in. Abysmal customer service, particularly from a so called premium brand where aftercare should be high quality.

Yes - a lot of gadgets on cars an have some glitches, but this was nearly every system, and I had no such issues on all of the same systems that were on my Audi etron Sportback which got chopped in for the Macan.

Although the car is now working better than it was, I still don't trust it. In February I put down a deposit on the new Mercedes GLC EV which I'm hoping to test drive in the next couple of weeks now that demonstrators are appearing in showrooms. So long as that goes well (I have no reason to think it wont as two of my friends have Merc EVs and have had no issues) it will be Bye Bye Macan, and Bye Bye Porsche - my first and last from that manufacturer!
