I'm new to EV's and new to Porsche too, but I am considering a Macan.

What surprises me the most, is the threads on Porsche servicing suggest it's a big rip off. I thought EV maintenance was supposed to be significantly simpler, ergo cheaper?

I have purchased BMW's for over 30 years (currently have an M5 - which has heafty service costs of course), and looking at their EV pre-paid service plans, the new iX3 is £650 to cover 5 years with no mileage restriction:
BMW UK Service Inclusive £650
Looking for servicing simplicity? We’ve got you covered. Keeping your Electric BMW running smoothly is hassle-free with BMW Service Inclusive, covering your servicing needs up until its fifth birthday with no mileage restriction.
I'm not saying the're necessarily comparable, but reading the threads here, there seems to be a massive gap with Porsche. Should I really expect £1500 for a pollen filter, brake fluid change, and an inspection (quick look over 😀)?

I would stay with BMW, iX3 is a far superior product.
Servicing for all EVs consists of cabin filter replacement, brake bleed and inspection.
Same as a 20K handbag you are paying for the badge and Porsche charges accordingly.
Porsche doesn't even offer service plans.
BMW at least allows you to purchase plans so you don't risk a heart attach every time is "service time."
For my BMW EV I purchased a 6 year plan which means 3 free services (every two years). Price was then equivalent to around 250 for each service, compared to ICE for a premium brand that is a steal.
Bare in mind a pollen filter and a 1L bottle of DOT 5.1 costs the dealership under 50, same for labor so the 1500 you are paying is for the status of saying I drive Porsche. Can't see anyone flashing a BYD key:CWL: to impress the ladies or anyone really.
And don't tell me Porsche pollen filter and brake fluid are superior to whatever everybody else uses.
Ok probably the cookies/tea tastes better than the Nissan dealership but that's just about it.

Hmm, as mentioned, I am totally new to looking at Porsche, so far I understand:
  • Poorly equipped as standard, and options are expensive - my list is ~£18k
  • Advanced tech is only just catching up (it seems to me)
  • Service (actual customer service as well as costs) is a lottery, but the dealer will screw you if they can
  • Porsche don't appear to really care about customers, quite an arrogant attitude
  • Quite likely depreciation will be heavy, on an EV at least (I'm thinking Macan might follow Taycan to some degree, but all EVs drop like a brick). Having said that, depreciation on an M5 is not great either.
Tell me I've got this all wrong 🤔!

I will discuss with my local dealer, which happens to be a Porsche GB Retail dealership (Hatfield), to see what they have to say, but I'm getting quite turned off.

Yes, but imagine how superior you can feel on your new build housing estate, with the neighbours only having an electric Vauxhall!

Worth every penny.

I saw Top Gear Car of the Year 2026 (UK mag) goes to the iX3, outside looks fine, very unsure about the whacky interior. The Macan ticks many boxes for me, I think it looks normal inside and out, hence it remains a serious contender. I may just have to swallow some of the less pleasant moments.

I'll keep reading the forums and general reviews, and have a discussion with a dealer.

iX3 is at least 2 generations ahead of Macan, I will not go into specifics as this is a Macan forum but if interested you can get a small glimpse here:
https://www.motor1.com/features/775297/bmw-cto-interview-state-of-motion/
Looking at it from an exterior/interior design point is completely missing the point.
Macan is a relic based on a design of ECUs since the 1980s when cars had 1 ECU, now it has over 100, iX3 has 4 but will resist urge to go into it.

So it shouldn't be £1500 unless something drastic has happened. Two year service intervals on a Taycan were around £750 for same scope of work.

More expensive on a Macan T (ICE) - same period £1200.

If EV servicing were cheap then dealerships would soon go out of business.

It is for sure a rip off but with premium brands and some charge £175 / hr plus. Consumables about £40.

Thanks, of course the dealers need to be funded, a mix of service plus sales, but it seems the value to the dealers out of sales in recent years has severely diminished. Not sure it improves as many brands transition to the 'agency' model, where prices are set by the manufacturer and they pay the dealer a set fee for for handover. Manufacturer covers marketing costs. I thought Porsche already operate this way, but I am not totally familiar with the brand yet. I know Mini have transitioned, and BMW are planning to do so in the coming year.

I was quoted £500 on my Taycan for 2 year service at dealer - no reason to think Macan will be any more!

THIS surprises you? Wait till you find out about Xiaomi SU7 which is pretty much a Taycan but costs 1/3 or 1/4 of it ;)

You buy a Porsche for one of two things - driving experience or a status symbol. Not for maintenance costs. So if you don't care for either one or the other, go look for something else ;)

I think that’s a bit harsh ! Good discounts on stock cars. No need for lots of options. Good residual compared to others - it’s an SUV so I don’t really see it as classic Porsche . Take a look at other similar products - Q6 , id6 etc.

BMW make great cars unfortunately many of them are as ugly as sin.
