It's being offered by Porsche on my new Macan 4S with 20" standard wheels as part of a scheme to reduce luxury car tax burden here in BC. Quoted at $4,850, nominally worth $5,495 for four years' protection.

That strikes me as punchy pricing. Has anyone in Canada had similar offers and accepted them? If not, is there a third-party you can recommend, or do you just take your chances?

In six years of Tesla ownership I've had one rim need repairing and many many punctures.

Seems about similar to what I was offered at the time. I declined

I bought it in the US and was very glad I did after a metal rod punctured both my tire and rim. Both were replaced, no charge. Paid for itself already!

I was offered it in Quebec (worst roads in Canada) and declined.
5th Porsche in our family and we have never had substantial rim or tire repairs done.
All punctures we have had over the past 20 years have been relatively repairable
And we have never had a rim refinished yet...

Considering this would have been $5,000 x 4 = $20,000 over the past 20 years. (loose approximation)
I would have been a colossal waste of funds in our case.

Now, will you decline and unluckily destroy a rim? It's always possible.

Plugging a tire puncture: $50.
Fixing curb rash at an indie shop (will use a file, epoxy, and paint matching): $150.
Replacing an entire tire when the sidewall cracks: $450. (Btw, cracking sidewalls may not even be covered by this coverage; check it to make sure!)

The only time this "wheels and tire" protection would maybe be worth it, is if you go into a sharp edge going 30mph+, and need to replace the rims because they warped. So maybe don't do that? :-D

Good grief - that's expensive in Canada! I have 3 years of protection for £800 (roughly $1500 CAD) for tyres and rims. My partner thought I was being overly cautious in buying the plan, only for me to have a serious puncture within the first 6 weeks of ownership that required a replacement tyre (it would have been around £350 if I'd not been insured).

I do have one tiny scuff to one allow, after having got a little too close to a curb trying to avoid a food delivery motorbike taking out my wing mirror by weaving in and out of the traffic. It's barely noticeable but I feel I ought to get it sorted just to get my money's worth from the policy!

No way would I have paid more than £800 for the policy though.
