Long distance travel using the Macan's navigation is a must for planning charging stops hink but I do like the 'real time incident and traffic' information in Waze and keep it active while driving.
porsche nav (active) on hud. waze (just passive with the option "warnings on" in center screen.

FYI, Apple Maps also provides user reported Crash, Speed Check, Traffic, Roadwork, Hazard, Road Closures warnings along your route.

I’m trying to move over to Apple Maps from Waze as it integrates better in the instrument cluster - I just don’t find it as “dynamic”

The Porsche nav is absolutely terrible. It makes poor choices, it has me zig-zag through rectangular blocks, its traffic info is slow. The only thing good about it is the on-HUD 3D turn arrows.
Google Maps/Android Auto still gives me on-HUD turn indications, just not the 3D overlay, but it has better routing and traffic info, so that's my go-to.

there is absolutely no difference between google and porsche nav. do you really believe that porsche has their own navigation system?

i keep seeing ppl say that the two are the same but i've experienced differences a few times. for certain addresses, porsche nav will take me the wrong place; when i input that same address into google maps, it will take me to the right place. this has been my experience in the bay area in california.

It used to be this way but lately I find the Porsche nav makes questionable decisions - very often due to traffic data being not up to date.

Anyway Porsche nav is the only way to go for battery preconditioning and charging planner so for longer trips it's the far superior.

They don't have *their own* map. I'm told they licensed one from TomTom.

There is a quite meaningful difference. I'll have my wife see the route on her Android phone Google Maps, and compare to the Porsche nav, and the Porsche nav path choices are markedly worse. Similarly, its traffic conditions are not as accurate.

When I turn on Android Auto and let it navigate, it matches the Android Google Maps.

Is it possible to run both maps at the same time? E.g have Google Maps running on the centre console screen but Porsche nav on the drivers dash?

Should probably give that a try later today...

The driver's dash is the routing information. Routing with the Porsche Nav app and displaying the google map on the screen from your phone has worked for me in the past. But I haven't tried it after the recent SW update.

You can see two maps, but only one route.

Every navigation app has its own quirks, advantages, and disadvantages. And yes their own philosophy.

Before a long drive (and that’s the only time there’s a reason not to use my personal favorite app), I check the route in the Porsche app and—in my case—in Waze. (They are quite similar.) The Porsche app has the advantage of sophisticated charging planning that takes traffic, weather, and topography and when necessary preconditioning into account.

When in doubt on long trips, this is what I do: I generally use the Porsche Navi (which I see on the HUD and on the drivers cluster). For traffic information and alerts, I view Waze on the central display without route guidance. I receive still all alerts visually and through the speakers. (even when the route is not active)

Plus, it’s no problem to switch between the apps—I’ve entered the route in both and use “Continue Route” to activate whichever one I need at the moment.

on short drives around a city there is only waze. It's superior because of its huge community (almost every truck driver) and the real-time information provided by that community.

Porsche uses Here Maps for navigation. Google's satellite layer is just a visual layer on top.
The VW Group bought, (together with Mercedes, BMW, Mitsubishi, Intel, and Continental), Here Maps (formerly Navteq) from Nokia. So, the core navigation is basically the same across the VW Group, Mercedes, and BMW.
However, Porsche uses Google to search for addresses and POIs, but the coordinates from the search are then sent to Porsche's maps (Here Maps).
I have also personally compared Porsche's maps with both the Google Maps and Here Maps mobile apps, and you can see that it really is Here Maps being used by Porsche Nav.

I totally agree with that and said as much but in less detail earlier in the thread.
