Any perspective on protective wraps if they are worth the cost ?

Just bought a 2025 Macan 4S CPO and during the process the dealer tried to sell me a protective wrap. Since the car is black I was considering it to add some color to the car and I was curious if anyone else had this done ? I was also curious if you can get this done aftermarket instead of paying dealer prices.

First off, I doubt the dealer is actually doing the work themselves -- they probably use a local PPF / detailing shop and are getting a referral fee.

I had clear PPF installed on the entire car, and the PPF, glass, leather, and wheels ceramic coated. That took six days and cost about $10K.

Worth it? Hard to say. The film is very slick and the car cleans up very easily in a no-touch car wash. It has also taken a few impacts that I can see which would have resulted in clear coat damage if the film wasn't there. If the film gets beat up then it can be replaced panel-by-panel.

If you're keeping the car for a long time and want it to stay looking nice then it is something worth considering. For a lease it doesn't make sense.

Done clear PPF to my black Turbo, have one part already damaged by someone, nice to know I can mow just replace that part. Other benefit, black is very sensitive optically to micro scratches when washing ... now after one year it still looks as from factory ...

The downside that I have found out is that my insurance (geico) is not going to cover the extra cost to reapply the ppf if a damage is done to repair they will pay for the paint work but not the added wrap. They are nickel and dime ing everything the even hackle with dealerships on pricing.
Having en expensive car cost you more on insurance but gets you also more hustle when it comes down to repairs. Not right. I wonder if other insurances treat it the same way.

I’ve used xPel on last 4 cars. I had some bumper damage in a car park that would have meant an expensive paint job. The cost of reapplying the wrap was a great deal cheaper. The wrap is also a good investment if you do a lot of motorway/fast highway miles. The wrap does mark but when you come to sell the car the wrap can just be peeled off and detailed.

I have a matte XPEL done few month back…and I love it. It is worth the 6kEUR (incl. Interior….dash, center console and display plus glossy part in front of the passenger). Yes, it is a lot of money, especially on top of the 3.5k for the Aventurin green paint, but I would do it the exact same way again….best combo in my opinion.
It is covered in my car insurance as accessory without extra cost.

Good for you Mario if you like the matte look, but personally, and like most, I prefer metallic paints.
Hence, manufacturers (mostly, if not all) don't offer matte colours.
But inside, piano blacks are not a good idea, so I did wrap it too.
Anyway, we all have different tastes :)
