On October 12th, it marked one year since I received my first Porsche — and my first EV.

It’s not the only car my wife and I have; we also own a 2022 Audi SQ7. But judging by the mileage record for the first year, it’s pretty clear which one is our favorite.

Whenever my wife drives the SQ7, I often hear things like, “I don’t enjoy driving this car anymore; it feels too slow.” (WTF — it’s a 500 HP car that does 0–60 in 3.8 seconds!) But I get it — that’s the EV effect. There’s no delay when you ask for power.

Before delivery, I had the adventure of a mandatory software upgrade. After the dealer noticed the upgrade wasn’t going through, they discovered a part needed to be replaced — which meant an extra two weeks of waiting. Looking back, I actually appreciate that they caught it early; otherwise, it would’ve caused a lot of issues later on (as I’ve seen others report).

The car has been amazing — both for city driving and road trips between Austin and Houston or Dallas (about 3.5 hours each). Because of this experience, I’m not going back to ICE cars. I’m already planning to trade the SQ7 within the next three years, most likely for the upcoming Cayenne EV.

During this first year, I had a few software glitches that were easily fixed by turning the car off, waiting 30 seconds, and turning it back on. The only real issue was with the DC charging flap, which was fixed under warranty — and Porsche even compensated me for the inconvenience. I can honestly say Porsche cares about their customers. They may not move fast, but they do take care of things.

I recently joined the PCA and signed up my “slow” Macan 4 for the Autocross. Let’s see just how “slow” it really is against the dinosaurs! 🏁⚡

I have had similar experiences over the first 9000 miles in 7 months. My only mishap was a front tire which had to be replaced due to sidewall damage. The tire was not in stock at my Porsche dealer and took 2 days to get. I found that surprising. Luckily it wasn’t an inconvenience based on my schedule and the car came back looking cleaner inside and out than when it was delivered. The car is a blast to drive and is better looking and has a better build quality than any premium SUV on the road.

I have had similar experience during my first year.
I drive a Macan Turbo EV and have done nearly exactly 50,000 km the first year.
I have been very satisfied and have only had one challenge with the electric charge port for DC-charging where a cable set had to be replaced.
I will by the way take a look at the new Cayenne when it come to the market.
P.S.
My wife drive a BMW iX2 which is also a very nice car - but of course different ;).

When it’s time to replace my tires, I usually check out https://www.tirerack.com/. They generally have the original tires for my Audis. I’m curious if they also have the Macan tires. If they don’t have them in stock, they usually have them on general delivery, which is quicker.

I wish the same with Porsche GB - I ran 2 Taycans for 3 years - Customer Service very poor and a dealer that couldn’t care less . Moved dealer and had a Macan 4S for 7 months- generally excellent but now an issue as reported on warning lights thread.

@Senna, since I was planning to post my own 1-year anniversary on my Macan 4 today, I hope you don't mind if I "supplement" (not "hijack") your post.

TLDR: 2024 Macan 4, specs below, ~9500 miles, 3.5 miles/kWh. I love it and I would buy it again. I really write the below for those who read this forum because they are considering buying a Macan EV, just to offer a counterpoint to unhappy posters. I have no hesitation recommending the Macan 4 as a great choice based on my own experience.

More details: I will focus on aspects that I feel are rarely addressed on this forum, or where I strongly disagree with the apparent consensus. I have owned about 50 cars in my lifetime, including 4 Porsches, and this Macan 4 replaced a 2018 Macan GTS comparably equipped, This is my favorite car of all!

1. Yes it drives really well. The 4 is more than quick enough for my needs, and I enjoy every drive.
2. I have had occasional self-resolving ADAS errors. Other than that, the car has been solid. I admit that seeing some of the more serious problems here, and in particular the failure of dealers, PCNA or PAG to reasonably solve issues gives me pause. In the back of my mind, I worry about a serious problem suddenly jumping up.
3. I have a 2-year lease. I would have no problem buying the car off lease except for my worries about excessive depreciation. I have time to decide.
4. This is my first BEV. As such, I don't have a basis for comparison with, say, Teslas, but here is where I disagree with a number of posters on this forum. I think the level of tech in this car is just right, at least for someone coming off earier generation ICE vehicles. OK, yes, my previous tech level was the gen 1 ICE Macan, but compared to that, this car is a very significant jump up in tech, and yet asks very few compromises in terms of ergonomics, which in my opinion are excellent. Just for example, this is my first car with wireless CarPlay, and the CarPlay is more reliable than it was on any of my previous hard-wired CarPlay vehicles. Similarly, my first car with wireless phone charging, which also works fine. The fact that there's no need to "start" or "shut off" the car is great, and just right IMHO. (BTW, there is a purpose for the start/stop button; if you are sitting in the car waiting for your spouse to finish a shopping trip that you have managed to skip out of, you can stop or start the car easily.)
5. I appreciate the availability of features that are not commonly found; e.g. the advanced HUD, RAS (I have had several passengers comment on the car's turning circle, interestingly), and heated windshield, for example. I also enjoy features such as the opening moon roof with retractable shade (both increasingly rare features). Climate control is quite adequate. Seats are comfortable.
6. Now that we have Tesla supercharger access, my complaints are relatively few and minor: the disappointingly mediocre AC charging capacity, really being the only significant one that comes to mind at the moment. I do not have rattles, the so-called passenger seat-belt rattle being a total non-issue. The Bose is acceptable (not great). The LKA does truly suck (easily misled by non-painted road marks and I leave it off). I don't care that much, but the speed limit sign detection needs improvement, and the Do Not Pass warning sign is a joke. The built-in navigation is not great (it tends to choose odd routes), and once you get used to the animated arrows in the HUD it's more a novelty than a useful feature. Fortunately, given the CarPlay and the fact that Apple maps shows up in both the binnacle and the HUD, I feel the only reason to use the built-in nav is when incorporating charging stations into the route, which I only do on very rare occasion. BTW, the HUD is probably the best I've had, and I would option it again, but yes, it is overpriced.

Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot to comment on the cameras. I would say, disappointingly low quality, but with the surround view, good enough to get the job done. I've certainly seen better.

Edit 2: How silly of me to forget: yes this is my first EV, and I am never going back to ICE if I can help it!

@dgkhn Nothing further, your honor.

Finally, a much-needed thread of satisfied drivers. Before receiving the car, I too suffered from "worry syndrome" when reading the forum. I thought about how many problems I would face when it arrived.

I've driven over 10,000 km and to date, zero problems and 1,000 satisfactions. I've had cars that I liked to look at for their beauty. The Macan is pretty but not spectacular (like all SUVs). However, unlike other cars, this one I want to drive all the time.

It's not perfect and has design flaws that prevent full enjoyment:
- The key doesn't have a double-click feature to safely open the trunk.
- Poor water drainage in the rear trunk.
- It bothers me that features that are free in cars that cost a fraction of the Macan's aren't included.

But I'm sure I won't go back to an ICE either, and today, I'd choose the Macan EV again.

I had a 2022 Audi E-tron with buggy software (much worse than the Macan). I took delivery of a 2024 Macan 4 last December and, like others here, love almost all aspects of it. I like it so much that, not willing to wait for the Cayenne, I traded the Audi for a second Macan for my wife a few months ago. I too never will be going back to ICE.

Every brand/model has its quirks. That being said these vehicles are pushing the envelopes and require rapid development.

Some of the flaws are there because engineers say "we need another month" and product says "we need to sell now, those will be fixed in the facelift". Happens all the time.

Happy to say that with the Macan I feel like a kid in a candy store. Pure joy every time I floor it!

I agree with the above. I frequently use my sons Rivian and Tesla and find them both have bugs which sometimes can be fixed OTA. Others simply do not go away. And the build quality of both of those cars is not great. Having seen the BYD cars in Europe these past few weeks I would
say all the mid price EVs will find it difficult to compete with them.

I will continue on with this thread as a happy owner of a 4S since February. This is also my first EV, and the only EV I've driven for an extended period of time. I don't think I can ever go back to an ICE, and when I do have to drive my wife's Mercedes GLS (a wonderful SUV otherwise) I find it a letdown.

As another comparison, the last weekend in September we leased (eventually to be purchased) a Kia EV6 for my two kids. Oldest is learning how to drive and wanted to get the $7500 US tax credit before it went away. When I test drove the EV6 AWD, my initial thought was... dang, this is a really nice vehicle for $40K. It's fast, handles pretty darn good and has very good technology. Driver's assist and safety features are great. As I was finalizing the EV6 deal, I found myself thinking, this thing is 75% of my Macan, for 35% of the price..... Then I drove my Macan again and I quickly realized at this point in my life, that last 25% of my Macan is worth the 65% premium I paid over the Kia. There are actually a few features on the Kia that are missing that I truly value; however, the Macan is so much more refined and just a joy to drive.
