BMW make great cars unfortunately many of them are as ugly as sin.
Cayenne EV is better value given the base spec IMHO. Roomier, latest tech etc. Personally I won't now include the Macan EV (new) in my short list unless they reduce the price £10K at least.

None win prizes in the beauty stakes but there are some promising signs coming from BMW at long last.

Indeed. Initially ordered GTS to replace faulty Macan but swapped for Cayenne EV in the end. Same price (my order), slightly better spec but obviously slower. Seems Porsche is basing price on HP alone for SUV, including ICE and hybrid. Except for 7series and M2, never been huge fan but neue klasse looked promising. On arrival, iX3 doesn’t differ to much from current design language. I like the iX interior better than iX3, along with polestar it’s one of my favourite designs. Driver position in Macan however beats rest by miles. Just my take.

I moved to a Macan 4 in February after having had 2 Jaguar iPaces since 2019 and before that 25 plus years of various Mercedes ICE's. I haven't had to have a service yet on the Macan as that will only be due in November 2026 but I have to say that I have had pretty decent customer service with Porsche Solihiull when I have raised queries and problems. It is a pain that Porsche don't seem to be able to handle Over the Air software updates and there are certainly some Infotainment niggles I experience but all in all so far at least the way these have been responded to is pretty much on a par with JLR or MB.

Porsche heard you, was just configuring Macan 4 for direct price comparison and guess what, there is now a new luxury package available for Macan and Macan 4 to bring price down. This makes 4s much less attractive.

Yeah I saw the luxury package, about £5k, but probably still better than all the individual options.

The reason I’m considering Macan, is size (fairly small) - need to park in car parks sometimes (it may still be too big/wide for many), and passenger comfort, specifically the front passenger seat. Every car seems to have high bolsters on the seat base, which makes things very uncomfortable for my wife. The current X1/iX1 MSport seats are a fine example - creates pressure in the wrong points.

Of course, I want good perf and handling too, I’m hoping Macan has it all 😀.

Handling is as good as it gets. With rear wheel steering feels like a hot hatch.

High bolsters in Porsche if you spec Sports seats rather than Comfort seats.

Handling - it's a Porsche so that's the least of your worries.

I thought the comfort seats were the way to go, so they are in my preliminary spec. It also appears the base bolster are adjustable?

Just the side bolsters are fixed in comfort and no adjustment on the squab bolsters (these are the additional 4 adjustments on the 18 way Sports seats.. It's the way to go.

Seat squab length and pitch are adjustable. Check any Porsche model with std, 14 or 18 way seats to confirm what you get.

Seat design changed for Macan. Like the comfort seats on Macan but preferred sports on Cayenne. There is a thread here on forum with pros and cons. Definitely worth checking at dealer.

4s feels sportier and more engaging, hands down. I had a 4 loaner for 2 month and when I was handed back my 4s, it put a smile on my face. Like with many things, novelty wears off rather quickly as we can see from our consumption data. Barely managed 2 miles per kWh at the beginning;-). All Macan are fast enough in absolute terms and for those on a fixed budget, it’s simply a personal choice.

Thanks, I will certainly look at both.

The 4S is my current thinking.

I had 2 x I-pace, now in a macan 4. 0-60 is a little longer on the macan, but mid range is at least as good, and I think maybe a little better. Handling is better on the macan. I spent more on options, matrix, leather etc. Seats in the macan are better, and the visibility is much better.
