I am scheduled to take my Macan ev turbo to track in four weeks. I would like to know if anyone else has done that. Also is there a forum for porche track drivers ?

i have many thoughts - unless the track has fast charging your time on track will be severely limited by consumption of the battery - if you want to try a macan ev on track, I highly recommend a PECATL or PECLA experience - they have fast charging, and the wear/tear on the battery/tires/brakes will be on a PEC vehicle not your own - and you'll have great lunch at their onsite restaurant…

here is my write up of tracking my 2020 Taycan Turbo

https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/t...d-on-driving-lap-data-impressions-added.2923/

https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/california-dreamn-a-taycan-thunderhill-west…too-much-fun.15074/

https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/got-in-a-few-laps-at-cota-in-an-e-macan.26740/

EVs are fun on track but lack endurance/stamina and their weight is their undoing on tires and brakes - consumption is so high you need fast charging at the track to do more than 15-20 laps total - you can burn 50% of the battery in 1/2 of a normal DE session…

if you do track the Macan EV i’d love your actual experience and data…consumption - duration on track before you were power limited due to thermals - and charging experience.

when i picked up my macan turbo at PECATL we never did more than 3 laps total before resting and charging the macan EV turbo - so there is that!

I have 15+ years of track experience and I'm a certified PCA National Instructor - I routinely track vehicles, but focus all my track time on a 911 GT3 - I've tracked all my EV's and they are fun but severely handicapped vs. ICE vehicles and simply IMHO not worth the effort. My ideal track "day/weekend" is to drive to the track in one of my excellent EV's and actual track a car more suited to the task - and then get in my EV and drive home having flogged an ICE vehicle on track which has far fewer limitations and logistical requirements.

you can read about my most recent track experience here:

daveo4EV, interesting they had you stop every 15 minutes at PECATL. The PECLA Macan EV track experience I had upon delivery did not have me stop. I also stayed an extra day to do track time in a Taycan and I ā€pulled the plugā€ (worn out) before they asked me to stop the car. I don’t recall how long I was out on the track, but I’m guessing it was 60+ minutes. Though, to your point, that still isn’t anything close to the endurance of an ICE.

I'd be interested in hearing how it goes, too. My previous car was an Audi GT (sister of the Taycan) and when I first got the Macan Turbo, I enjoyed the practicality, but the wheels certainly lose grip much sooner than the GT (and thus Taycan) in the same conditions ...

I'm not sure the "EVs are bad on brakes" is all bad news -- regen braking can apply a fair bit of force, certainly more than what's needed just to compensate for the higher weight.
Tires needing to fight harder is understood and the biggest weakness IMO.
Maybe they put weaker brakes overall on the EVs because they know they have the regen to help?

Anyway, go, have fun, and report back!

Yeah I didn’t have to charge the Macan either during my PECLA visit, and we did way more than three laps. Maybe eight, plus the 1/4 mile drag and two of the wet tracks. It wasn’t complaining of thermals or low when we were done but I wasn’t paying much attention to the specific consumption. The lap is probably shorter. Still, something to be aware of that it isn’t going to last for hours and hours. I think they learned some things from the Taycan though.

Thank you all for your feedback. This will be my first tracking experience. I will start of with my ev turbo Macan and then upgrade to a more track suitable ice porche .

almost same objective here, but different choices.

I plan to do the different levels of the Porsche track experience with the PEC cars, and in the end, maybe buy a car that suits the track needs.

It gives me some time to find the money for a gt3 😊

The Macan GTS is fitted with the Sport Chrono Package as standard which has been enhanced with the Track Endurance Mode that was introduced on the Taycan. This mode prepares the Macan for a particularly dynamic driving style. When activated, it cools down the battery to delay potential power reduction due to battery heat, also known as thermal derating. The result is a noticeable increase in duration of high-performance driving.

Same experience at PECLA when we took delivery of our 4 there in May. Even have the same picture in the same car. We did stop for a few minutes when we changed drivers. Definitely recommend the PEC experience.
