We just used parallel self park for the first time. It executed the park but put the car so close my wife curbed the wheel pulling out since she had to back up a bit to clear the car it parked behind. She has a lot of experience parallel parking so I don’t fault her. When I was watch in the screen it seemed too put it too close - I should have gotten out to look but I was trying to trust it :(. We have the 21” turbo wheels but I think you would have needed 19s to just hit rubber.

How do you tell it to unpark the car? No obvious that it can do that. There’s really no need to have less than an inch from a curb - a few inches of margin would make more sense.

Why not let the car automatically pull out of the space?

I think I’ll just skip it -Both my wife and I know how to parallel park - we were just playing with it and paid the price - personally I’ve never curbed a wheel. It was also very slow to find a spot to park in - it seemed to irritate people that drove up while it was trying. We had to cancel one attempt because the space it wanted to reverse into had a car parked there - the space forward was open.. When we tried it in a parking lot, it could only.pull in if it had two other car to pull between - it would pass by open spots with clear lines. I alway park as far away as I can from other cars to prevent door dings - I don’t mind an extra walk.

Why not let the car automatically pull out of the space?
I have used that function on occasions, and it can be quite handy and works well. But sometimes the message comes up “function unavailable”.

The auto park function gives a “Function unavailable” message most of the time. Is that just my car?

second question; how do you make the car pull out automatically?!

Bit of tempting fate here ‘ I’ve never kerbed a wheel’ !

I have yet to try self park but I have managed to get curb rash all on my own.:crying: The good news, my local dealer (Rusnak, Pasadena) was able to buff out and repaint my 22" sport rims for $50.

The intent of the post was to warn others since these wheels are expensive to fix or replace and most people who spend time on car forums would rather learn about it here first. I benefited from the reading through all the early growing pains / bugs / fixes. Without forums like this and rennlist, I would feel much less comfortable owning this car or our 718. Thanks for all the info.

Wow petzi. I’m the wife. Everything ok with you? No need to be so harsh

Yup, a really dumb thing to do and don’t we know it. With a rashy rim to show for it.

Clickbait? We got an answer - let the car unpark itself. Thanks for that.
Mary
The point is that you first have to familiarize yourself with the car's functions. I believe that it's not the car's “fault” if you don't check how close you are to the curb before pulling out of a parking space, don't use the rim camera, and also not use the automatic parking function, and then start a thread with a headline that gives the impression that the car damaged the rims during automatic parking. (I damaged two rims myself in the first week, but it was my fault, just like in your case).

Sorry for your experience! The Best parking functions I had so far was in BMW's,. My Mercedes once jumped in a pedestrian almost hit a tree! Porsche's looks slow! I haven't tried after the latest software updates, maybe it is improved along with other safety/assistant improvements.
