I found it interesting that your rattle came from the interaction between the plastic speaker grille and the leather dashboard (if I understood correctly), because mine seemed to come from the junction between the leather-covered armrest and the plastic panel underneath. I managed to fix it by squeezing some insulation foam between the panels.

I also agree it’s important to try and pinpoint the source of a rattle before bringing the car to Porsche. I once left mine with them for a software update and a passenger-side door rattle. The car sat there for 10 days, but they didn’t fix it because they couldn’t reproduce the sound. The service advisor heard it when I dropped the car off, but no one followed up with him afterward.

Later, I drove with the mechanic to demonstrate it. At first, he struggled to hear the rattle—even though it was obvious to me, just not as loud as it sometimes is. He eventually caught it briefly, but still couldn’t identify the cause. To make matters more complicated, the rattle varies with temperature and road conditions (and maybe a little with the mechanic’s hearing loss after years in loud workshops, lol.)

He suggested I schedule another appointment so they could dig deeper, but I didn’t want to be without my car again or have them disassemble the door without knowing exactly what they were fixing. So I decided to troubleshoot it myself. So far, the insulation foam solution is working—and I’m pretty happy with it 😊.
Wow.. really interesting story ...Happy that you solve the problem!!
As I mentioned in my previous msg, since I inserted this small piece of foam, and I informed my Porsche dealer for that, it stopped rattle, however, because you know well when the car is in hot /cold environment the rattle can be altered, or even disappeared for some time, I am still testing to see if I "Arrested" it this way.Now you gave me an extra spot to check in case I noticed it again as per your experience, thanks! If you have any photo please share with us to see your fix.Thank you.
By the way, it is funny how service engineers are loosing their hearing ability when it comes to identify a rattle! đŸ€Ł
Once in a VW work shop in my wife T-roc they even pretending that they don't listen... and believe me it was so obvious! 😂

I had my Macan 4S in at the service center in Princeton, NJ for about 8 days for a number of random issues and the only item on the list they were able to tackle over the 8 days was the software update for the camera recall.

I've had this awful rattling that (after a ton of driving with me sitting in every seat in the car) is coming from the passenger side somewhere under the dash or behind the blank glossy piece.

Service center shockingly said this was normal because another Macan they had made the same noise... I'll be bringing it back in but thought I'd try something DIY in the meantime as it drives me absolutely nuts.

Wondering if anyone has any advice on removing this glossy trim piece to see it's a clip or something else not in place behind it? Attaching a video for reference..
Well, I dropped my 4s off at the dealer a week ago... The exact same issue. What was most interesting is that the rattle / noise was temperature dependant: In the morning (Southern California) it was prevelant, but at night, after sitting in the sun, it was non existent.

Will advise once I get back to SoCal and pick up the car.

Good luck!

I don't know if this will help (since your noise seems to be in the dash area) but I thought I'd give you my experience solving the rattle in the passenger area of my 25 Turbo (I posted this in April in another thread so apologies if you've already read this).

After 5 months of rattle free driving during relatively cold winter/early spring months (in Toronto), I started hearing a subtle rattle in the cabin as the days became warmer. I couldn't quite place where it was coming from but after poking around a bit, I happened to press lightly against the roof liner (near the forward edge of the sunroof opening) and the rattle subsided. I ran my finger along the gap between the sunroof frame and roof liner and noticed that the gap was not even -- it was tight near the driver's side but the gap grew towards the passenger side. I pressed firmly against the liner in this gap area and felt it snap into place. The liner now sits perfectly even across the sunroof opening and the rattle is gone. I guess the clips that held the liner to the roof panel weren't fully engaged during factory assembly.

Again it may not be your issue but it's an easy thing to check. Good luck with this --- rattles are particularly annoying in such a quite vehicle.

I thought it was from there too, but found if I push the pan roof up, it stops. Perhaps a loose seal

Ah! I should have mentioned early on that it does seem to be slightly weather dependent. It's very odd - we had really hot weather and the noise would seem to be most prominent in the morning when leaving my garage and would tend to settle down a bit after the car was sitting in the sun for a while.

Fingers crossed they fix it for you! Keep us updated

Thank you for sharing - I also had this same exact issue. I did a temporary solve by putting adhesive acoustic foam around the perimeter of the liner around the sunroof and that fixed it, and the service center decided to "trim it back" after I told them my janky looking DIY fix was not acceptable. Upon pickup, the advisor finally realized what I was talking about and agreed they needed to do something different.

However...this isn't the rattle I'm hearing from the dash. Different one/different noise -- and I can replicate while all doors/windows are open by doing some light fist pounding on the dash/passenger glossy trim piece...

I've also tried the speaker comment mentioned above and that doesn't seem to be it either although I wish it was because I'd finally know where it was coming from..

The rattle riddle continues

Dealer is replacing B-Pillar and the trim piece around instrument cluster that was warped upon delivery in January. They had to order these parts with a 3 week wait, so hopefully they can take another shot at the dashboard sound when it goes back in

I have the same temperature-dependent rattle coming from either the instrument or center console. Will be monitoring how you resolve it.

I spoke with my SA yesterday... He advised it's been fixed, but he was going to drive it this morning.

More news when I have it....

Any news from the rattle battle?
Yes, thanks for asking!

My SA advised that they literally took the dash apart, and put it back together.

Sounded too good to be a fix, but it's now rattle free!

Hope it's a long term fix!

Thanks for Replying 🙂!!

Wow.. That sounds good... Being honest I had this issue with a Copper S in the past..and once I saw a brand new car with dismantled dash board ..I was terrified!

I hope you solved the issue permanently!! 🙏

Glad I didn't witness the car being dismantled!

Yeah!! Sometimes better not to see! 😂 😂

I keep having the rattle near the speaker grills in the dash and I hesitate to take it to dealer fearing the dismantling procedure!!

But of course I guess this depending also of how capable is the engineering team of each dealer!

But now that I heard your pleasant experience/outcome...I may think of it more seriously.. especially now that the weather is becoming more cold in Greece, I think it will rattle more often..

Thank you!
