The article could have just been titled "reality showed up".

The government plans for heavy-handed ICE bans and 100% EV sales were always unrealistic. I've said many times that we're just 10 years in to a 30 year EV transition. It'll be very gradual, especially in the US but in most other Western markets as well. EVs are better choices in some situations; ICE or hybrid better in other situations. Trying to force a square peg into a round hole is never a good idea. Most especially by govt coercion/mandate.

I agree fully, I would never in a million years switch back to ICE as a daily. With that being said I would still think ICE is better for weekend/few days a month sports car because ICE cars still give an emotion that is not replicable even in 1000hp EV's.
Likely because someone that bought an EV before already did the calculus on whether it's a good fit for their situation.

For many it's not though. I'd never buy one if I rented an apartment and couldn't get cheap, dependable L2 where I a slept.

2028 will see the new Macan ICE replacement and will be both ICE and hybrid. It won't be called a Macan.
Total garbage - just finishing a European road trip in a Macan EV Turbo - it’s a perfect vehicle. Performance, comfort, driving enjoyment, luggage capacity, road presence, style and design.

A gas powered Macan replacement has already been confirmed by Porsche CEO due to low sales of the Macan EV, set to be released in 2028 based on the Audi Q5 fwd-biased PPC (Premium Platform Combustion). This replacement will run alongside the Macan EV but positioned lower. Unlike the original Macan this platform will not be reworked, development is just 3 years.
It the opposite of what they are doing with their 718 sport cars, the top of the range RS model or whatever it will be called will be gas powered while the rest of the lineup will be EV.

The OP’s video’s title, which lead to this thread’s title, is typical click bait, as Porsche is not “pulling The Plug On EV’s.” As we saw in Porsche’s official statement issued by its CEO last week, Porsche is planning on a balanced three part (ICE, hybrid and EV) approach and is adjusting production targets to meet economic realities.

For my wife and me, our next vehicle will be a Porsche EV.

There’s quite a bit of conflation on this topic. If you were to base it simply on current demand then, for the Macan at least and for whatever reason (and I am sure there are many), supply seems to be lagging behind. In the UK, there’s at least a nine month lead time on a new order of this baby. The assumption is that this is representative of the broader market.

It’s a replacement for the gas powered Macan i.e. for people who want a Macan sized Porsche SUV but are not willing to go EV or move up a size/price bracket to a Cayenne.
Lots of direct replacement models get a different name it’s called marketing, not going to post every example but similar to Portofino -> Roma -> Amalfi.
The original Macan was nothing more than a reworked 2008 Audi Q5 and stayed that way until the end of its life. It will now be reborned on the Audi Q5 2024 PPC platform.

Indeed just as the Macan EV is a reworked Audi Q6.

Note that the Nacan ICE is not yet dead for several countries outside of EU - UK being one.

The headline of this thread is factually incorrect. It is not true that Porsche is “pulling the plug” on electric cars. The opposite is true. The sensational new electric Cayenne will be launched this year, the Macan is constantly being improved and further developed, and the hybrid models are being further developed and improved.

The facts are: The Macan EV is selling very, very well. The long delivery times are proof of this. Nevertheless, there is obviously still a large market for an ICE Macan, which is why Porsche will continue to offer it in the future in a modernized form.

The problem for Porsche is not EVs. The problem is the Chinese market. Sales are slumping there, but certainly not because of EVs. It is almost impossible to sell an ICE in China anymore. But the competition from cheaper but “luxurious” Chinese vehicles is very strong. This is difficult for all European car manufacturers.

It is wrong to attribute Porsche's problems to its electric models, and Porsche will continue to have to focus on and invest in electric mobility, just like any car company that wants to survive the next 10 years and beyond.

Oliver Blume has been quoted on various shareholder calls recently that the Macan EV is not selling as strong as they had hoped.

60% of Macan (any) sales were EV models and the balance 40% ICE. Therein is part of the problem - had Porsche universally ceased ICE Macan sales then Porsche's woes would have been more pronounced.

By any measure these are not spectacular sales figures.

https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/202...ding Germany),,of them delivered to customers.

None of this detracts from the Macan EV being a good car but best not to overstate how successful it has been IMHO.

Nowadays, it's almost normal to give an answer to a question that has nothing to do with the question. The question was: Is Porsche pulling the plug on the EV? The correct answer is NO. Whether Porsche expected to sell more Macan EVs or not, and especially in which market, is completely irrelevant in this context. Porsche will not give up on the EV. That would certainly spell the end for Volkswagen, Porsche, and Audi.

Plus your own link:

Macan is the best-selling model in the first half of the year

In the first half of the year, 45,137 examples of the Macan were delivered to customers (+15 per cent). Almost 60 per cent of these (25,884 vehicles) were the fully electric variant. In most markets outside the EU, the combustion-engined Macan continues to be offered, with 19,253 of them delivered to customers. The Panamera also performed well, with 14,975 deliveries, representing a 13 per cent increase.

Pot, kettle!

Enough of the defensiveness and re-read your own responses, if anyone went off topic on this thread or misread other contributions you clearly have.

The Macan headline is for ALL Macan sales if you read it properly and to help you I also quoted the percentage split.
