I had been noticing a weird object on the camera when i was parking in recent weeks. I just assumed it was dirt on the camera. but after washing the car this weekend, and it remaining, i realized it's a chip and crack on the lens of the front camera.
it's not really a big issue for me, as i can still see well for the most....but i'm not sure about how the safety features work with the sensors and cameras.
Nothing has happened yet...
But i'm wondering if i should get this replaced. And if so, would this be via insurance or a warranty claim for its "failure"

anyone have experience with this yet?

I would definitely replace it as safety systems likely rely on it especially if it’s the front camera . Warranty should cover manufacturing defects but external damage from rocks etc. sounds like more of an insurance possibility.

might wanna get an estimate on replacement cost first before you give your insurance company an inkling that you might file a claim. In my Father’s day, comprehensive claims like this didn’t necessarily raise your rate. Today, they even count Safelite windshield repairs against you. Bastages.

yeah, i've been meaning to look around to see if i can get a price/part number ...see if it's worth attempting to replace myself...but i'm sure this ain't gonna be cheap either way

Op said front camera. The link goes to a camera in the rear view mirror, if I read the diagram correctly. Also, I think the front camera is behind a plastic clear screen. Perhaps that’s all that needs to be replaced.

no, that is the right part number. It's the same camera as what's in the doors... the rear camera is different.
i did run by the dealership....who quoted me $2500!! to replace. They're claiming the whole bumper has to come off and calibration of everything would need to be done after that of course...

Right. Guess I did not read close enough. I also wrongly thought the camera was behind the plastic screen lower center of the bumper. Thanks for clarifying!
