CarPlay will soon allow watching videos

The WWDC continues to reveal surprises after the Monday keynote, as the sessions with the developers are ongoing.

Newest info is iOS 26 will allow videos to be streamed on CarPlay (regular and Ultra) when the car is parked.

Updates will be needed for apps to support this but fully expect a bunch to jump onboard!

I have the new CarPlay installed on a test iPad and I futzed around to see if I could make it work on the passenger display and no go yet. I assumed it would require an update to the car's software but checked just for giggles because I really want this to work on the Passenger display.

To the best of my knowledge CarPlay is not supported on iPadOS.

I have iOS 26 on my iPhone 16 and all the new features are present in my Macan. NO apps support the video in CarPlay et though.

CarPlay in iOS 26 supports a new Smart Display Zoom feature. I was hoping this might allow the Macan CarPlay experience to reduce the zoom (so icons and objects were displayed smaller).

At this stage it does not seem to have any effect with how CarPlay is shown in the PCM. When tested on my BMW iX and Abarth 500e it does affect the zoom. On those cars though the zoom is appropriate, and and shows quite a lot more in the CarPlay display.

During a q & a session during the conference, one of the Apple reps said that iPad OS 26 Smart Display on Passenger displays was a desirable scenario they would like to enable.

Do we know when the software update is available? How can we get notifications from Porsche app that an update is available or do we need to ask the dealer or just watch the forum news?
