US tow hitch specs

For anyone with the tow hitch spec’d and taken delivery, are there labels there that says tongue weight capacity? I’ll be carrying a hitch mounted bike rack (Kuat NV 2.0) that has a capacity of carrying 2 or 4 bikes. 4 mountain bikes is probably pushing it for this vehicle.

I’ve checked online manuals and searched online but couldn’t find anything yet.

Hi Joe,

I remember looking into this as well as I wanted to make sure it could tow two jet skis. Good news is, Yes, the tow capacity is 4,409 LBS. You can find this information under technical data in the Porsche Car Configurator. So you should have no issue with 4 Bikes ;-).

4 bicycles and rack no problem at all. Milage will drop by a fair amount.

Thanks but that’s towing capacity. Tongue weight is different. I’m going to assume 2 lightweight MTB and the rack might max it out. Efficiency I know will be hit as it could be carrying about 300+ lbs.

I have written down the max tongue weight of my Macan 4 EV's trailer hitch as 441 lbs but I can't remember how I came up with that number.


Update: it was in the specs.
  • Dead Weight Hitch - Max Trailer Wt.: 4409
  • Dead Weight Hitch - Max Tongue Wt.: 441
  • Wt Distributing Hitch - Max Trailer Wt.: 4409
  • Wt Distributing Hitch - Max Tongue Wt.: 441
  • Maximum Trailering Capacity: 4409

Awesome! That’s what I was looking for. Thanks all!

Kuat NV 2.0 is already just over 100lbs for the rack for 4 bike setup. Each bike is from 30 to 40lbs. Well within the limits but range hit for overall weight.

For context, I swapped out my OEM factory hitch on my Model X to a aftermarket one for more tongue weight capacity.

FYI The Towing Capacity for all 2026 AWD variants was increased to about 5500lbs. Excerpt from the manual:

I thought I had read that this was true for earlier model years as well, but I’m not able to find that reference so don’t quote me.
I was not aware that there are any physical changes on the 2026 vehicles hence my belief that the capacity change was just a certification.

FWIW I don’t think a significant portion of a range hit is due to weight as I have loaded up an EV with passengers and luggage and did not see a huge change in range. Instead I think any hit is from drag of the carrier and bikes.

I took a road trip over the summer in our Volvo EX90 with a Thule Epos 3 and three bikes. The resulting efficiency/range was 87% of normal when comparing the same stretch.

No rack - 171 miles, 2h 30 min, 69.3 kWh
With rack - 171 miles, 2h 33 min, 79.5 kWh

I also specd the hitch option for a Kuat rack and two mountain bikes but had assumed it would not be an issue. Thanks for the information.

The previous trailer hitch limits in the USA for 2024 and 2025 models are 2000kg and 200kg tongue weight. 4400lbs and 440lbs.

I’d love to know from Porsche if it’s possible to upgrade a 2025 to the 2026 specs. I’ll ask next time I’m in the dealer

There are YouTube tests of trailer range online showing the weight of the load affects range minimally, but the aerodynamics is what hurts the most.
