Uneven rear tyre wear

Hi all,
just had my Macan 4S back from having a bad rattle fixed behind the passenger side dash and was handed a vehicle inspection report saying both rear tyres were wearing unevenly with only 4 mm tread on the outside edges. Car was new a year ago and has only 6500 miles on the clock. I queried it and was told its how the car is set up and a number of Macans were showing this. I’ve asked for this in writing but nothing yet. Anybody suffering this uneven wear on the rears?

Do you have an air suspension and drive in lower/low modes?

This may be due to alignment problems caused by the air suspension. The alignment seems fine in normal mode but when you lower it everything goes off the charts. This is yet another issue on some cars it seems, I'm set for another attempt to fix it this month.

Don't know if thats your issue but it may be of some help if your alignment seems fine but tires are uneven.

Uneven tire wear can also be the result of improper tire pressure.

If the tire is over-inflated the center of the tread will wear excessively. If the wear is on the outside near the shoulder/sidewall, the tire is under-inflated.

Hi chaps,
got air suspension and have only driven my car in “normal” mode. Tyre pressures are as recommended and I wouldn’t be cynical if only one rear was a problem….but it’s both rears! Both down to 4mm on the outer edges compared to 7mm on the inside edges.

I'd just get the alignment checked by a good tyre place, and crack on. I was getting about 12000 miles per set in my I-pace, I'm not expecting anything better, its a 2 ton sports SUV, and I'm not Miss Daisy.

Keep in mind it will lower itself at higher speeds regardless of your setting.

Yeah….but it’s not the tyre wear that bothers me mate, it’s if it’s set up badly and is this common. 2 ton suvs shouldn’t be riding on the tyre edges.

But if it lowers itself I would expect the wear to be on the inside of the tire, not the outside.

Could the tire wear be the result of hard cornering, possibly in combination with PTV+?
