- 1.5kw/m, at 70/80mph
- which gave me headaches for this particular trip
You’re saying 1.5kwh per mile? So about 60 miles of range? That’s crazy!

I have wingbar edge with ski rack, I have been getting 2.6 miles per kWh at 70mph freeway trips with two pair of skis. Mine are also very quiet, I hear a little wind noise at low speed but much better than most I’ve had. Mine don’t whistle or anything and I don’t hear them all at high speed unless there’s a strong cross wind or something with buffeting.

Hello everyone,

I’m thinking about getting a roof box for my Macan for ski trips and summer holidays.

I find the original Porsche ones ridiculously expensive and also a bit too large. Has anyone had experience with a Thule roof box (or another brand) on the Macan?

At the moment, I’m leaning toward the Thule WingBar Edge carrier system. One advantage is that, unlike the Porsche accessories, it’s completely black and also sits lower.

As for the roof box itself, I’m torn between the Thule Motion 3 XL Low and the Motion 3 L in the standard height. The XL Low might have slightly better aerodynamics and would also fit cross-country skis. The L offers more space and is shorter. I’m wondering whether I might run into problems with the tailgate opening if I choose the XL. In the German Porsche forum someone claims it fits but glad to hear some more opinions.

This is the first time I’m considering a roof box, so I’d really appreciate any feedback. Of course I’m aware of the impact on fuel consumption, but with a small child you simply have to bring a lot of stuff along 🙂

Cheers
also get "single key to pass" (same key) bars and roofbox and then any other thule product can take the same key when future planning purchases. i have bars roofbox and two bike racks. all key to pass. very handy

Hi, I have the Thule XL low on a 4S. No problem at all with opening the gate, more than enough room between box and gate.
Very satisfied using it for wintersport, just don’t look at fuel efficiency, driving in sub-zero temperatures on the autobahn😂

With wingbacks edge black by the way, and single key system

Thank you very much for all the pictures @tomthemac
Thanks @hans_ as well, this probably means I go with the XL low then.

How bad is the range hit? I guess between 20 and 25%?
Correct🥶. When driving 140 km/hr at -3C my range went down to 275km. Doesn’t bother me when on vacation with plenty of superchargers and IONITY around

Just measured my cross country ski again and they might also just barely fit into the L size. Might go with that one after all as it has better storage for kids stroller etc in summer.
Consumption is not so much of a problem as I am a) not traveling far within Switzerland in Winter and b) further travels in summer are with a baby anyway and summer consumption is great anyway
