Hi guys,
AC charging my MACAN4S with Porsche‘s PCM and setting the Departure time feature to allow for low.price off peak charging over night in my garage.
This is a useful feature, yet I wonder if it does heat up the batteries for the selected departure time ??
Note: I don’t have cabin preconditioning active for selected departure time.
Has anyone noticed batter temp going up?
With current surrounding of 0-10 degrees C, i have observed battery temp to be around 8 degrees C when randomly checking the car throughout the day.

The departure time doesn't preheat the battery; the charging current will simply also heat the battery.
To charge during low price hours, you need to configure your preferred charging times.

My Taycan, set to a departure time of 8:00 AM at 80% charge, reached that level exactly at 8:00 AM; this isn't the case with my Macan.
Charging starts almost immediately after the start of the preferred hours and is generally finished well before the departure time, last vr28 update did not solved this problem.

I've also noticed that the battery temperature is around 8°C, as if it's been maintained at that level since a software update ???
The temperature used to drop much lower in my unheated garage.

Thanks for the info! Yes, Same here: Configuring AC low-cost charging times usually starts firing with max charging capability - 10.8 kW in my case - and then stops once you have reached the desired target SoC. It does not "ramp up" slowly to adjust the current to smoothen out the charge.
Also, to be noted, you need to have at least 35% SoC to allow for charging at preferred charging time, otherwise, it will just start charging immediately.

Do you know if the battery gets warmer if you select cabin pre-heating in winter ??

The cabin heater uses the HV battery and that combined with charging will raise the temp of the HV battery but not to a material extent.

It does not heat the Battery I have let the pre conditioning run for 2 hours, not a single degree gained in battery heat … if you see any minimal increment, that is because the wal box charger started topping up your battery when the SOC drops and the charger starts …

All are correct, there is no such a thing to preheat the battery for optimal temperature by simply charging it on AC or being plugged in to AC. The technique that is used to heat up the battery in the cold winter conditions is to do a yo-yo method by accelerating and braking in succession to discharge/charge battery. I am not sure if there is any benefit to this method vs. letting the car manage it, but this technique is often used to warm up the battery more rapidly then using pre-heating feature of the car when pointing to the DC charger in cold conditions.

Thank you all.

So there is no way to optimise the battery for a drive in Winter.
Interestingly, Porsche has just released an article about battery cell research.

https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/202...ance-cell-research-drive-batteries-41288.html

In the Swiss German version, they even provide further details when comparing the cells from Taycan I to Taycan II - notably with a lower start temperature for DC charging with 15 degree celsius in the Taycan II vs 25 degree in Tacan I models.

Yep we've known that for quite a while now.

I believe the battery tech on the Cayenne EV improves on this.
