My main gripe with this is that there is no way to tell at a glance if your phone is charging, without going into CarPlay. There is a popup about non-charging, but that’s a 1 time thing.

Also Waze used all my phone power in under 3 hours! And once the power was low, running Waze made it so the wireless charger couldn’t keep up.

Switch to the MagSafe charger. Alleviates all that.

Do you mean the nine volt thing? Otherwise someone mentioned here that there is a phone charge icon lower left of the center dash screen, green when charging. Seems to work for me.

You may want to try a different phone case, if you use them.

Myy watch tells me when I left the phone behind, although that could be after waking several yards.

What’s the charging power and does it get hot?

I think the website says 15W which is the MagSafe standard. Sometimes the phone gets hot depending on what it is doing (navigation, music, etc.) but I think that is more a phone issue than the charging issue.

iPhone 16+ can do 25. That would be a requirement to move me from the built in charger

My car does not have this mythical Phone Charge Icon. Here is my center screen, phone in the cubby and charging.

Here's the Apple CarPlay button page with the battery status in the top left, above the Waze icon, and below the cell/wifi signal meters.

This is the ONLY place I've found to show the battery status, and I'd like to see it in the main PCM, probably under that 5G in the very top left of the screen for consistency, and always visible.

Being able to add this to the right tube as one of the 4 lines of data would be a good substitute.

Speaking of black holes in your charging compartment I found this nifty little motion sensing light that fits right into the compartment and you can manually turn in on/off for extra light in the cabin. It comes with a charge cable but you need an additional usb to c usb cable to charge it in the car if you want. It seems to work ok but a little finicky on the motion sensing (does not always come on) but aways works manually and you can vary the light intensity to suit. Note that the video shows the wait time for the motion sensor to time out and shut off. My iphone 16 fits without interference and it is velco fixed to the side so it does not move around. Also the location shown is the best position to illuminate the entire compartment. Anyway, just sharing for anyone interested. Cheers.

The velco they supply is useless as it is missing the mating surfaces so I just bought a pack of velco

I would like to know if I'm the only one who complains about the fact that a 140k car doesn't have any lighting in the smartphone charging compartment. Every time the smartphone gets lost in this black hole... incredible...

And then there was light...I posted that I found a compartment light that you might like. See in this tread. In this photo you can see a standard cell phone (iphone 16 or equal size) fits well with the light. A bigger phone may not.

that looks pretty cool, but I would miss having access to the compartment. Also for that price, it looks 3D printed and I would just print my own.
