Hi,
I’ve finally decided to buy a set of winter tyres, as I travel frequently to a ski resort. I drive a Macan 4S with 20-inch wheels.
I decided not to buy them through Porsche because of the price difference and because there are more options elsewhere. The challenge now is choosing the right tyre.
Based on your experience, which winter tyre would you recommend? I’m especially interested in strong performance (grip and stability) while keeping consumption/rolling resistance as low as possible.
The models I’ve shortlisted are (open for more suggestions):

- Michelin Pilot Alpin 5
- Pirelli Scorpion Winter 2
- Goodyear UltraGrip
- Continental WinterContact TS 870
- Bridgestone Blizzak LM005

Thanks!!

Michelin X-ice Snow SUV will outperform all of those by far in winter conditions. I have them in 22’ on the macan turbo. They are available in correct dimensions in both 20,21 and 22. Bought them from my Porsche dealer but they are also available from various European online tyre shops etc.

I got the Michelin X-ice snow, too. I would have gotten Blizzaks (which are the best snow tires Ive ever had) but from what I could figure out they were not available to the Macan4.

I have found that Nokkian Hakka R5s are the best deep snow/ice solution out there.

Hi, I have the Pirelli Scorpion Winter 2's in 21" wheels. They have very good traction in our Montreal snowstorms and are quite smooth and quiet. I always preferred and love Michelin X-Ice tires though. I have had various generations of them, and find them excellent in every way (ultra smooth and quiet, excellent grip and long tread life, lower rolling resistance etc.). I would have got the X-Ice Snow tires when I got my Macan 4 but the front 21" tires were not in stock and would take 2 weeks to receive. So I opted for the Scorpion Winter 2 to avoid waiting (got my Macan December 2024 so I needed winter tires right away). Hope this helps!

We are actually just getting them installed today so I can't tell you how I feel about them yet. We bought the Goodyear UltaGrip because we spend a lot of winter in the snowy mountains and traction was the primary objective. They seem to have a bit more aggressive tread for snow than the Pilot Alpin.
