Has Rivian figured out how to prevent their motors from burning out yet?

So i could have waited for this and had one on "order" for April.

But i just couldn't get over the looks and the interior when i sat in a demo. Ride wasn't that great either and i just didn't like it.

The only selling point was range but i'd rather stop and charge than own this car.

Well.. that's disappointing.. I guess it's not really a class competitor. I have a 4S and I'm very happy with it so far. Yes, it has a few quirks on occasion but man what a great car to drive! I wish Porsche would get their computing/software act together and start pricing their cars to compete (ha ha). I'm surprised that so many people got the initial impressions so wrong on the BMW. I kind of figured they wouldn't get the drive dynamics correct .. especially initially but it sounds like they really blew it. Given they can actually update over the air, I expect they'll be doing a lot of that it seems. In any case, let's see what others have to say as well.

I've been looking seriously at the R2 in the US. Given it's at least a 3rd gen car and has an exceedingly loyal customer base (Consumer Reports has Rivian on top of almost every category in customer sat), I'd say it's going to make the BMW squirm once people get a real comparison between the two. Yes, it's not the same but still the R2 tops off where the BMW prices barely start. Maybe Volvo will beat them both out. We'll see.
I'm right there with you. I'm in year 2 of a 2 year lease on my 4S. Originally did the lease for the tax incentive, but then life got in the way and I never bought out the lease. Figured at this point I would just reevaluate against current competition when my lease is up next February. If only, feel like it would give me confidence in my decision vs. wondering how it stacks up. Was definitely planning on checking out this BMW, but if it's not an impressive driver I will have no interest. The looks (interior and out) just don't really do it for me.

I got a 39 month lease. The technology in this space moves so fast that I didn't feel it was worth buying the car .. especially since it was a 'first' of it's kind. I figured by 2028, the competition would be there and Porsche would have made some progress. Given their software mess and the lack of progress with Rivian, I don't think they'll have their software act together by then. It's a wholesale mind shift to actually build a software defined car (believe me, I get that given my many decades in the software industry) and it will take them mucho years to get there .. especially given their stubbornness and culture issues. I do like what I see in the Cayenne though and if they start moving some of that core engineering into the Macan (suspension, motors, battery cooling and layout), I may give it another go. I don't expect rapid OTA updates though for some time. However, if they continue to stabilize the software and increase the range 15 to 20% like they did with the Cayenne, I'll give it another go. I do like what they have done with the screens and interface with the Cayenne. They need to move that to the Macan.

Don't see ventilated seats in the iX3 configurator. How is that possible in this day and age?
