Hello,

I am the owner of an electric Porsche Macan, which I purchased about five months ago. In recent weeks, as the weather has become very hot in my area, a problem has started to occur where an oily-like substance is leaking from the rear camera downward.

I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this issue?
While searching online, I saw there appears to be a recall for something similar, but when I entered my vehicle’s VIN number, I was informed that my car is not included in that recall.

I've attached a photo from today, showing the leak marks which appear to be originating from camera or its seal.

Could it be washer fluid?

No, it’s not water. The liquid is oily and leaves rather dark stains once it dries.

I have this and so far with the warmer weather, it looks like the washer fluid. Liquid and it’s picking up all the crap from the road when driving.

Washer fluid is more than just water. It can be soapy and feel oily.

I had the same thing but a bit worse. Porsche service found there was some sort of oily residue deep under the camera housing that was not easy to see. It was not the camera itself. Apparently the camera cleaning washer fluid has some alcohol which dissolves the residue. Lastly, the fix was to take a q-tip with some cleaner to remove the source residue. The oily drips have been gone ever since. Hope that helps.

I do have the same issue. Somewhere else in the forum it was mentioned that this is happening in warmer temperatures when the washer fluid extends and then starts leaking. Even if this might be the case, it's not well build from my perspective. As I am going to my dealer because of some other issues next week, I also addressed this one as well.

I have the same issue with my Macan 4. I’ve had it since November, but the problem only started appearing around June, with the high temperatures here in central Italy. I took it to Porsche service (I had to go three times due to air conditioning problems), but they told me it’s normal. It’s not a serious issue, but it’s definitely annoying — especially because mine is Ice Grey, so the dark oily streak is more visible.

The recall is different, it is within the camera itself. This just appears to be some excess lubricant or something leaking on a hot day. Many new car doors and other parts have done the same. I would wipe it and not worry about it if it stops on its own - if it truly is excess material like a washer valve lubricant from manufacturing running off due to heat, it will eventually stop. If it’s a true leak of washer fluid or something then it will not and might need investigation.

I've had my car since beginning of Jan 2025 and have had this issue since pickup until present day. I brought my car in for the camera recall in June, but this leaking thing is still happening. So I'm guessing I have some kind of leak?

If it isn’t, then an option might be to have them disassemble and clean the components in that area, but I’m not sure if you would want them doing that, either.

I had a VW that was constantly leaking some excess waxy sealant from the bottom of the doors on hot days. Looked like an oily wax and kind of made a mess in the door frame.
