Interesting. If it can spot and warn of kangaroos at night, sign me up!

ha! if you’ve got a few thousand labeled thermal images of kangaroos, I can bake them into the model. the current model’s trained on:
1) People
2) Wild hogs
3) Coyotes
4) Deer
5) Raccoon
6) Bikes

Basically just about everything you might come across in California

Nice :) BTW, nice work on the external camera integration too

There’s certainly no shortage of live kangaroos around here (and sadly a lot of road kill ones too)

I’ve heard that apparently car manufacturers find kangaroos particularly hard to deal with from an autonomous driving perspective as they are one of the few based land animals that fully leave the ground when they move so it’s harder to tell where they are spatially

Custom project. Designed for safety / animal collision avoidance at night.

Demo video (software still a work in progress):

Wow - great project (and I want!). I'm also curious about the tech stack you're using, if you can share that

Everything runs off an Nvidia Orin Nano sitting in the frunk. Using a YOLO model trained on thermal data.

See blog post here (directionally correct; I’ve made a bunch of changes since that aren’t reflected):

For those interested in the hardware side see here:

if you're able to get into the Dash to display the video....are you able to get into the headlight module?

Ha - no there's 0 hackery going on here. In fact 0 car-side software changes. This is basically just a fancy dash cam.

What are you thinking? If I had control over the headlight module I'd probably light up detected collision risks.

Nah, the US community has been looking for a way to change the Headlight modules region settings.. Afawk, there are nice headlight functions that are turned off for the US that are active in other regions.

Oh ditto - yeah I'm in the US so my car has the adaptive matrix thing turned off as well. PITA.

I wonder why Porsche doesn't allow the infrared "Night Vision" camera setup in the Macan (ICE or EV), when you can get it in every other 4-door Porsche. And why doesn't Porsche have dual sun visors for both front seats of either Macan while you can get it in the Cayenne.
