Hello,

I’ve had my car for about five months now, and while I’m generally pleased with it, two things are concerning. Overall, the suspension feels fine, but on a couple of occasions it has felt like it’s crashing over very small bumps. If I switch from Normal to Sport mode and back, the issue goes away, but something still doesn’t feel right.

Secondly, I’ve noticed that when I’m turning at low speeds, it sometimes feels as if I’m driving over a small bump. I’m wondering if something might be wrong with the rear-wheel steering (RWS) that’s causing this sensation. It almost feels like the car is skipping slightly.

What do you guys think?

Slow speeds + cold + summer tires are always a problem because they become stiff. What tires are you running?

I was just about to post on this topic, or perhaps something similar. I've had my Macan for about 8 months now. From 20 to 80 degree F.

About 5 months ago I started noticing a bump feeling like running over a small object like a ¼ inch or so dowel after the Macan has set for more than a day and driven 4-5 feet straight backwards. The longer the rest time the more noticeable the bump is. The car is parked in a garage nose up on a slight incline. This is on a clean garage/driveway. Never happens parked for less than a day.

The garage temperature doesn't vary that much.

I've noticed it from time to time after parking at a hotel overnight or longer.

I thought perhaps is was a collision avoidance type thing that pumps the brakes, but I'd expect also an audio alarm. On other cars I have felt similar bumps as the pads move past rusted area and onto clean disk area, but before 4-5 feet. .. and that usually continues for a few revolutions. This is a single bump.

I may have noticed it moving forward, but I haven't been able to repeat that.

Otherwise the car drives fine.

On the skipping while turning on low speed, probably the Ackermann steering geometry

not always. Sometimes I’m just pulling out from being parked (on the street) and it happens immediately

Likely not anti-dive. If it is more pronounced after car is idle for longer and usually while reversing, would have thought it maybe disk rust as well. Will be tricky to demonstrate at dealer. Did you try test run on larger, empty road with series of very aggressive braking? G-meter >1

My advice - if you feel something should not be happening, it usually means it shouldn't. Unless this is your first car and you have nothing to compare it to, press the dealer to check it out.

Also check the "offroad mode" to see if this feeling gets any worse, might help you diagnose the problem.

In my case the brake was applied, shifted to reverse, slowly released the brake as the car moved rearward but continued some brake pressure to moderate the creep speed. I don't feel anything in the brake pedal. It seems more like a hiccup in the creep function, but hard to tell.

Just checking in with you guys before visiting the dealer.

Slow speed (manoeuvring) skipping is 100% normal on all Porsches - Ackermann effect.

Thanks but if it works correctly you shouldn’t feel the skipping no?
Suspension loading on rubber bushings changes wheel alignment. Porsche wheel alignment is optimized for high speed turns at the expense of scrubbing or chatter at low speed. (see Ackermann)

So when working normal you will feel the skipping. On a slippry surface you should not be feeling any skip.

No i think the skipping is part of it. I get it too as do many with RWS
It is not related to RAS and normally is experienced from the front wheels.

Given the Ackerman effect is noticeable on all Porsches with or without RAS (front axle generated) you will experience it.
