The manual warns that self parking can damage your wheel - check!
Self-parking is not great on Porsche, it grazed my rear-wheels with the curb a couple of times. And I don't have RAS.
Never happened with my previous BMW i4.

absolute senseless thread. just read the start of it everyone: car selfparked perfectly. btmacan left parking manually and hit curb. insists that its the cars fault.

this is a big problem here: someone gets a new macan ev. no idea about it. things go not well. of course the manual or reading of already written posts no option. complaining here is more fun. this makes it hard for me to distinguish real problems from fake. not fair to people with real problems…

I very much appreciate this thread and threads like it.

We bought a new BMW iX and the very first day I had it, I tried the same function in our own neighborhood. Just to see how it worked.

And it’s slowly ground a new 22 inch wheel into a curb.

Of course the manual says using that function can damage your wheels. Then why offer it?

And I also think leaving the car an inch away from the curb is setting someone up to damage the wheel. Porsche is an engineering company and I expect this could be better.

And I also appreciate someone who puts themselves out there, makes themselves vulnerable to attack, by putting a warning like this out. Lots of people will benefit from it. Thank you.

you’re welcome - I buy a Porsche to drive it – not to be driven by it or in this case parked by it. I don’t even let 1/2 my cars shift their own gears :). To be fair I do like the ACC and lane centering when on the highway – even works well on twisty mountain roads - but what’s the point of that. Rear wheel steering is also great when parking manually and likely improves the handling – this handles better than my X3M.

Yes, we all agree with the first part that Porsches are fun to drive. But to be fair, parking is not part of that, as auto-parking is a useful feature, especially in tight parking spaces we get in Europe. The Americas tend to get larger parking spaces.

Glad to hear it works well in tight european spots. To be fair I don’t street park all that often - when I do I look for a spot that I think I can get into and the cars in front / back of me can get out of. If I need to park a distance away the walk is good for me. We also have a Kia Niro Ev which is the ideal car for city parking - 18” rims are much more curb friendly for times you must feel your way into a spot :)
