Race-Tex vs Leather on Macan EV GTS (Daily Driver) – What would you choose?

This would be a daily-driven car, so I’m trying to balance sportiness, durability, ease of maintenance, and overall premium/luxury feel over time.





Would love to hear what you’d choose and why, especially from those with real-world experience.

I am team leather but this is highly subjective.
Racetex is a bit too racy for me, it is not a track car but a daily. But to each their own.

As I specced my Macan all black, I’d go for leather for an all black interior.
If I chose any other colour, I’d go racetex with leather wheel.

Also, when reselling (if not leasing) many buyers will have come to expect Racetex in a GTS…

I wouldn’t agree with RaceTex being racy! I think it is absolutely horrible especially on a steering wheel.

I think Race-Tex feels quite nice (especially in a GTS) and is fairly resistant to scratches and similar wear. It will look almost brand new even after a few years, as long as you don’t eat in the car or sweat excessively. Even if that becomes an issue, wiping it down once a month with the right products will keep it looking fresh.

I would personally choose the textile fabric seats any day of the week, as the leather feels quite stiff and less comfortable compared to, for example, the materials and seating you get in Mercedes. That said, to each their own.

The only thing worse than piano/gloss black or black paint is race-tex.
Hate materials which like to wear if you look at them.
I find it acceptable only in two places, the pillars and headliner where touching the material will be limited to 0%.
My preference is for fake leather but since Macan has none of that dead animal skin it is (wipes clean) and whatever cheap fabric they use for the pillars/headliner (not paying extra for looks).

agree 100% with comment directly above - RaceTex for appearance (non-tactile) areas only. "Suede" shows wear.

Same ive ordered full leather including steering wheel but racetec headlining..
Absolutely went mental with extras apparently porsche colchester said just under 30k of extras we hit the record add ons lol

Leather is better for maintaining look over time. I wish they would offer other colors..even two tone like Bentley.

In Switzerland 30k request is average at most. And the base car already comes with a higher standard trim than all other markets

My last car had the AMG version of Alcantara on the steering wheel. For me it was a huge mistake. It gets icky fast and needs special cleaning periodically. After multiple cleanings it can start to pill. You feel like you need to wash your hands before getting into the car. Our older car with a leather wheel always looks great and easy to clean.
