Which steering wheel lock would you recommend for the Macan EV?

Hi,

Which steering wheel lock do folks recommend?

We love, love, love our Macan 4S. Unfortunately, thieves love Porsche too. The last time we used an ICE Macan it was stolen. To guard against a similar occurrence I have been using a large yellow lock on our new Macan each time I leave it on the street overnight. Unfortunately the lock is starting to leave a dent in the leather steering wheel.

Any tips for a great lock (particularly tips from fellow Londoners, us living in the car crime capital of Europe) will be greatly received.

Thank you!

I don't get it. It's essentially impossible to start the drivetrain without the encrypted key. Nobody smashes the window and shorts a couple of wires and drives off with a modern EV; that's simply not a thing.

Are you worried about key cloning/skimming? Or a booster relay? And if the thief has that level of sophistication, you don't think they'll pick your club in a few seconds, when lock picks are available on Amazon and tutorials on YouTube?

Thanks for the reply. The thieves will wait with a RF receiver the size of a cellphone in their hand which collects the signal from any keys used on the street. After collecting the signals from all the keys used during the day in the street the thieves return at night and unlock the cars they like before driving off. The car will be kept in a shipping container for a week (to block the tracker) before being shipped to another country (usually somewhere in Eastern Europe or West Africa). It happened three months ago to us with another Macan. London is particularly targeted due to the prevalence of fancy cars and good shipping routes to the target markets. Last year in London 1 out of 88 cars was stolen. It's a thing.

This is why rotating challenge/response keys are used in modern systems. "recording the signal" is something that garage door openers suffered from in the 1980s ...

But, of course, it's totally possible that car manufacturers still use 20 year out of date technology. Now I'm actually annoyed -- technically speaking, this should have been a solved problem a long time ago, and if it's not on my current car, I'll be quite upset!

Anyway, if they have time to tow and container the car, the club isn't going to be much of a problem, either. Most EVs are towed by being lifted onto a flat bed, and/or by having skids inserted under the wheels. The skids don't care if the wheels are turned. Although towing does require more effort than just unlocking and driving...

Personally, I was always afraid my ICE Macan S or SD would be stolen; I'm much less worried with an electric car....

The stoplocks fits stoplock, but I use this which is not as good, but less hassle fitting and as a simple visual deterrent - lock - at least stops the chancers rather then the pro's.

Probably the best one you can get. I've always used one on all of my vehicles. Drawback is that it's more expensive and more clunky to use and store than others.
