Anybody out there who is using the new Porsche Wallbox?

Right now I'm using the Tesla Wall Connector which is working fine but I had to open up the TWC to everyone to get it to work. With the TWC I have three options:
  1. Only the Tesla VIN I program can charge at the TWC.
  2. Only Tesla's can charge at the TWC.
  3. Everyone can charge at the TWC.
With the Macan I have no other option than to open up the TWC to the whole world which is not an ideal situation of course. My Tesla Wall Connector, although being on private property and guarded by camera's, is not behind a gate. So in prinicple when I'm away others could 'borrow' some electrons there.

When I'm away for more than a day I just disable the dedicated electrical group I have for the TWC and enable it again when I return, but that's a bit of a hassle.

Now this new Porsche Wallbox has some nice features like the rfid and the certificate options.
For some inexplicable reason they are not giving the Porsche Wallbox away for free so if anyone has installed the Porsche Wallbox I would love to hear the experiences especially in light of all the issues I see with plug & charge (I'm also a participant there...).

Just to give my thread a bump...

Anyone technical enough to answer this question: plug and play isn't working again after the non connectivity was solved. I'm not going to make a big deal out of this since everything else is now working again so I'm not going to do a factory reset. But I was wondering how the functionality of this Wallbox works with respect to plug and charge, does it need a certificate for this or can you program your vin into the Wallbox like I could do with the M3 and the Tesla wall charger?

i am also ineterested in this particular wallbox.

if anyone is using it or has experience with it i would like to know if it comes with rfid card/keychain and how the LTE connectivity function works. my local porsche dealer told me that there is ''data volume'' included so i take it i cannot insert a sim card. i am afraid they couldnt provide any more info.

i am planning to install it in an area of my plot that does not have internet access so any info on the LTE function is highly appreciated.

When your car is connected (P&C enabled) it should handshake with the wallbox and allow the connection to be made (and remembered for the next time). On the PMCC you had to accept the connection and the PCID code (looks like a VIN but isn’t) would be exchanged from car to the wallbox.

Suggest re-reading the manual.

Hi all

I've installed this wallbox in a parking garage where there is no cellular reception but wifi.
Also, I've connected it to only one phase with 220V and (I think) 16A so I get roughly 3.5 kW. I know this wallbox is too good for that power, but I might move to a different place in the future and the owner of the garage building was so kind and extended an existing power cable with a fuse and counter. So all good.

All in all the wall box works well and I have remote access through the Porsche app. This was also the main reason to buy the PWBX so it's fully integrated. The authentication works flawlessly with the Porsche Plug&Charge. The first time I've plugged in the car - after restricting access - a push notification asked if I want to add this car to the white list. Once accepted, the car is going to be allowed without any confirmation in the future. The "handshake" takes a while, ca. 30s, but always works. However, as a backup I also authenticated my Porsche Charge card, just in case the p&c would not work.

So far so good. I've mentioned the integration into the Porsche app was the main reason. Well, there is not much you can do in the Porsche app. You can stop a charge and you can see active sessions. If you wan to do more, like change a bunch of settings, you need to be a) in the same Network (wifi) and b) call a website like pwbx-12345.local and login with a service password (which is included in the manual). Again, once everything is setup and you don't add or remove cars multiple times a day, you won't access it anyway.

So all in all the wallbox works very well, even with just one phase. Plug & Charge incl rfid authentication works as well perfectly. Today I would also consider an other wallbox from another manufacturer that has p&c and rfid and wifi with a dedicated app, as the section within the Porsche app does not give you much to play with.

thanks for this information. I'm still in the market for a new charging station and hoping that my tesla wall connector bites the dust soon otherwise I cannot justify this expense.

It says in the documentation that it supports modbus but that's all it says. There's no documentation whatsoever about the different modbus registers you can then use to control the charger. That's a shame because I'm trying to get a flexible charging situation where when my solarpanels are producing more then I'm consuming, I can then command the Wallbox to start charging.

Anyway, I think I'll send Porsche Germany another email about this.
