New Google Maps Now Worth Using

After updating to iOS 26.4 google maps from carplay stopped showing nav/arrows in dash and in AR HUD. Used to work well. Anyone experiencing the same?

Google Maps app on Apple just got an update. I’ve not tried it yet, and it doesn’t mention specific fixes, but it might fix this

The real value here is the API handshake between the Google Maps EV routing and the car’s real-time State of Charge (SoC). Previously, third-party apps were just estimating consumption based on generic profiles, but the updated version pulls actual telemetry data to adjust arrival percentages. hmmm, I noticed the route recalculation is significantly faster now that they’ve optimized the tile rendering for the PCM hardware. If you’re planning a long-distance trip, the way it layers the Ionity and Electrify America stops with live stall availability is a massive leap forward. It’s definitely more efficient than the old workaround.

Just to be clear, are you saying google maps on Android now gets telemetry from the car? I wonder if the API is not available for IoS. On my 2020 BMW, until the latest GM update it could not provide turn by turn on the instrument cluster - but AM always could. GM via Airplay on the Macan just display a message “Car Play is in use” in the cluster. This shouldn’t be so hard.

Before IOS 26.4 update, GM was displayed in instrument cluster and HUD too. Update broke it with no fix whatsoever for weeks already.
