I’m leaving in a couple days for a trip to a friends house, who has a NACS home charging setup. I mistakenly thought that the Porsche NACS adapter would be what I need, but after reading the literature that came with it (i got it today…) I noted that it only works for DC charging, not AC. So I’d like to get an AC adapter for this trip so I can charge at my friends house and not have to search out a charging station in a fairly rural area. Any recommendations for something I can get quickly and from where I can get it in the next couple days…..thanks!

Hi. As another colleague mentioned you can order it and have it shippedto your friend‘s house.

Amazon carries both and offers overnight shipping.

I tried taking 2 pics one for Tesla fast chargers which is identical to the one Porsche sent us/me only replacing logo with Porsche logo. The other I believe is the one that you can use with a Tesla home charger not fast charger Stations.

both on Amazon. Best wishes.

Make sure to bring the wall-plug adapter as a backup!

The reason is that, the way the "tesla to J1772" adapters work, is with collaboration from the Tesla wall EVSE. The EVSE will try for 30 seconds to talk as if you plugged in a Tesla. If you didn't, it'll switch and try talking to J1772, and at that point, your car will answer and it'll hopefully sync up.

But not all Tesla EVSEs (wall boxes) have this flavor of the software, so not all of them will reach that point.
The 120V plug-into-the-wall charger might be slow, but it'll charge wherever!

all Tesla Wall Chargers _CAN_ speak J-1772 - it's not a matter of software installed or not installed - but some Tesla Wall Chargers have been configured to be "Tesla only"

this is not the default factory configuration
if you have the right "app" and can connect to the wall chargers wifi hotspot you can "adjust" the configuration…
but many many people have lost the wifi name/password for the wall connector so it's effectively locked…(although there is a QR code on the side of the adapter)

the point is _IF_ you know what your doing and you're allowed you can "adjust" a Tesla Wall Charger's configuration to not be Tesla-only…

but since this is not the default configuration from the factory - it's unlikely a residential user made any changes what so ever…

you can use the Tesla app to "adjust" the Wall Connector's configuration if you've added the wall connector to your home's wifi…

the 4 possible configuration are show in the picture below - the default factory configuration is "Any Electric Vehicle" - so unless someone has made changes - that is the 99% likely scenario - especially for a residential home Tesla EVSE…

@daveo4EV Thanks for all the helpful advice! Sorry if I led you astray, but my friends charger is not a Tesla brand. I'm pretty sure its an Emporia with a NACS connection (verifying that with her). She doesn't have an EV yet, but is planning on buying one in 2026. So this will be a first-trial of her system. My home charger is an Emporia with J1772 connection (of course...), and other than setting up an account and connecting to wifi, i don't recall any vehicle-specific setup. I plugged it into the car and the green light came on!
