Anyone with a 2026 car with 3D surround view care to comment on the usefulness (or any other insight) of the kerb assist view? This insta post is the only info I've been able to find for it.

I thought that might be an obvious one.

There to detect the presence of a kerb or obstacle close to the wheel when parking - extremely useful (I have it on my 911) and is a wheel saver.

You may find it more useful when not in 3D mode.

Yes, I'm aware of the intended functionality, just wondering if anyone had any further info/images/video, since kerb assist was highlighted as a new feature for 2026 when selecting 3D surround view only, and 2D surround and I guess 2025 with surround doesn't have any kind of wheel highlighting or warning, just the (albeit useful) wheel camera views... sounds like the 911 has the same feature/visuals with 3D surround view? More or less useful than the closeup wheel camera view IYO, and do the wheels highlight when not in 3D mode (as in the top-down surround image above, not the wheel camera views obviously)? (Can you tell I'm bored today ?)...

I can't say for certain but on both my J1.1 (Gen 1) Taycans with 360 Panoramic (as it was called then) they both had kerb view but no sensors. Instead there was a solid blue line to mark the kerb between the nearside or offside wheels which I found even more useful. Ironically, if you paid extra for 3D Surround you lost this feature!

Porsche keep changing the names of things with little in the way of new functionality. The latest gimmick with 3D is to hide the bonnet - Macan EV only just now I believe.

3D Surround on the J1.1 Taycans introduced the virtual cameras and the ability to spin the image around - completely pointless IMHO.

The system on the 911 doesn't highlight the wheels but has coloured banding - white-orange-red and an audible bleep around each wheel as you approach. If you look on your car you will see a front and rear side bumper sensor which provides this service in addition to aiding handsfree parking (or remote parking).

For anyone still following this thread... I test drove a Macan GTS today and it had 3D surround view.

For starters, I can thankfully confirm it still includes the same 'real life' kerbside camera views as the 2D surround (or surround view in 24/25 cars), using the side view icon and then you can view either the front or rear pair of wheels, so is immediately a more useful option than 3D surround on the Taycan, which removed the kerbside views in favour of spinny 3D view only.

I didn't have a chance to take pics or video, but the transparent bonnet view is a great addition, we had a cone in the blindspot, right by the front passenger corner of the car, and this gave a really good view of it... to be fair, you're likely to see the cone in the overhead view anyway, but the bonnet view is a front view, using the front camera as well as the side cameras to give a wider and further back view than front alone... I think I'd find this pretty useful, especially if I was ever in a typically narrow and small UK parking garage, or driving up to a high kerb.

Overall, I'll definitely be speccing 3D surround if I settle on the Macan in a few months time, it's the 2D surround + more, as opposed to missing any feature from that view. Not sure I'd ever use the spin around in 3D thing, but the transparent bonnet view alone makes it a good choice for users that might find it similarly useful... shame it's such a pricey option.
